The terms of reference for the poll of the club are determined by our Memorandum and Articles of association. The outcome of the poll if it goes against a Council motion is to delay by six months. Thereafter it is Council’s duty to do what it thinks is best for the organisation. The poll is not a means of making policy. This is nothing to do with censorship or the twisting of words.

Maybe the Memorandum and Articles of Association needs to be changed, in order to provide some clarity here. How about....'The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many'...... oh no that's not right....hang on I will have another go.......'The needs of the Management outweigh the needs of the Members'...there that's better

Re: CTC Begging Letter - March 2016

As a former MG we have many senior CTC members. They are much liked and well respected by the younger members of our group and I do not want them taken advantage of in this way.

As Secretary of our club I have today written to them as follows:

I wanted to communicate to our more senior CTC members, that you may well have received a letter this week from CTC. The letter is from Jon Snow, President of CTC, is in a traditional type face and even has the, now rarely used, Winged Wheel logo on it. In it, he asks that you leave a Legacy in your will to CTC.

From what I can tell the letter is genuine. However, I would suggest that you do not rush to a decision on this. Behind the scenes somewhat, so you may not know this, CTC is to re brand as Cycling UK next month. The Charity brand name Cycling UK will be pushed in the media while the old CTC name will still be used for the Limited Company. You will read all about the new brand name for the charity in the April edition of Cycle.

So, in terms of the Legacy Letter from Jon Snow. You may wish to wait a while, until you have had time to digest what this brand change actually means, understand exactly which pot of money your Legacy will be added to and what it will be spent on.

Obviously the decision to leave a Legacy is entirely yours. I just wanted to warn you about this change and suggest you wait until you are in possession of all the facts before you commit.
Regards
Dennis

I hope other Club Secretaries, who feel as I do, will do something similar.

Re: Do we need a new Cyclists' Touring Club?

Well worth a look is the Touring Cyclist Club. Currently going through a consultation phase whereby interested parties may express their interest to help run the club and/or make suggestions as to what facilities and services it should offer. See the website here: http://touringcyclistclub.org.uk/

Re: CEO's statement

Our charity will still legally be registered as the Cyclists’ Touring Club with its charity and companies registrations unchanged. The Cyclists’ Touring Club is not being disbanded. In fact, part of the need for this change is because we hope the new brand will enhance our touring offering.

Sorry I don't believe a word of it. CTC has abandoned touring already. I mentioned in my post earlier....expect lots of Management Hyperbole/BS. We all recall the promises before the charity vote about how existing touring benefits will remain. GO TCC http://touringcyclistclub.org.uk/

Re: It's all in the name - Cyclists' TOURING club

Some thoughts. Firstly, there will be a big Marcom (Marketing Communications) plan behind this new logo and name when it gets released. Expect the big wigs to try and generate some media hype with lots of NO management team spouting all sorts of 'excitement at a new era for cycling & campaigning etc'. Secondly, what does it mean for our MG's who have CTC branded clothing and website domain names? Members who have the branded clothing also? My suspicion is these will need to change over time in order to reap the benefit of the new organisation. To start with members will be told its cosmetic, MG's can still use the CTC name etc. But then we were told that conversion to a charity would not result in touring benefits being lost. Expect lots of further changes to be forced upon us, if not straight away but certainly over the next couple of years. :x

Re: It's all in the name - Cyclists' TOURING club

Well looking on the brighter side, when this re-brand happens those now in charge of the Cyclists Touring Club would have to give up the CTC name surely??? I mean, they wouldn't have the brass neck to continue to say they represented the Cyclists Touring Club as well.......would they?????

Re: Heart of England, what's going on?

In answer to MJR's point regarding HoE debate. There has been much debate within HoE, going back a long, long time before I called the Special Committee Meeting to discuss this single issue in May. All of our committee ride, listen to and talk to our regulars every single week. Our regulars have been consulted with a great deal and of course there will be further debate at the EGM. There is no hidden agenda or even a 'committee defending its proposals' here .....we are just trying to do what will give us the best chance of survival. I first rode with this club in the 70's, as did my Grandfather before me. I don't want it to ever go under.......... and certainly not on my watch.
