Re: Route suggestions in the Nice - Marseille region

Hi, Depends when you travel. May/ June not so busy but good weather. Just off to Nice again next week and expect all the roads will be ok to ride. Also there are loads of cycle paths along the coast. I have not ridden in or out of Marseille though but have never had any trouble in cities in France.

Re: Dijon to Montpellier suggestions

Hi

I don't like the River Rhone route. I would prefer to stay to the west of Lyon but it is not flat.
My favourite area would be the Ardeche, Uzes, Pont du Gard then on to Nimes.

Also it is going to be hot!

Re: TER trains France

Hi Ivor,

I would love to know if you manage this as I am keen to try this route.
From Calais I think you can get the TER to Reims and then south avoiding Paris.

Re: Taking bikes on trains in France

I would add that you may find it easier to put your bike in the car go through the tunnel and drive to the area you want to tour. Find a campsite or somewhere safe to leave your car. I have done this numerous times.

Re: Touring wheels

I have a Kona Honky Tonk too and love it. I have toured on mine and the wheels are still going strong after 4000 miles. The wheels seem strong and fine so don't think they need upgrading.

Try toggle mobile. Their call rate is 3p per minute but not sure of the data cost at present.

Re: Tyres just for a change

Rims are 622x13 suitable for my 700x25 but they are very tight.

Pressure about 100 but have tried 80-120 but no difference perhaps I best try different pressure gauge.

Tyres just for a change

Hi I have looked at lots of posts regarding punctures and sorry if this has been answered before. At present am running on Conti GP 4seasons and had done about 1000 miles without a puncture. Over the last few weeks I have had numerous pinch puntures so have tried varying pressures to no avail. How l...

Re: Heading towards France

Hi

Having cycles that area several times would suggest maybe head towards Rouen rather than Paris.
Slightly more interesting towns on the way with the option of the coast if the weather is good.

Re: 5/6 day tour into northern Europe from London

Hi

I am just planning my 5 day trip in France but have done the Pas de Calais area before.

So as I live near the channel tunnel going to pop on tunnel drive about 100 miles South West. Then just drop the car and do a circuit from there.
Distance per day dependant on weather mainly.

Calais to Bordeaux

Hi
I am just planing another tour for next june and would like some advice on route choice.

Want an interesting scenic route from Calais to Bordeaux but not via Brittany.

Also like hills so not just canal or river paths.

Any suggestions or interesting places to visit would be most helpful

About time somebody made a light pannier set, there must be enough demand.

Re: france top to bottom

Hi

I did Calais to Med a couple of years ago.

I just drew a straight line on the map and used that as a base. It involved flat sections and lots of hills, which always makes life interesting.

I don't remember the mileage but would recommend it as an alternative to sticking to the easiest route.
