Thanks! Yeah I've never heard of the brand.
I'll be buying it online so I doubt I'll get a test ride.

Live tracking and a worried mother
Hi, I am 20 and going on my first tour for a month in August.
Yes 20 but that doesn't stop my mum going out of her mind worrying about me.
So I was thinking is there any such device what can be used as a tracker? Like a bike computer with a gps in it that my mum can track where about in the world I am at that time using a tablet/computer at home? I'm from the UK and I'm traveling over to Norway.
Also what sort of bike computers do you guys use for a tour? Are they sore on battery's? I don't need one with maps as I'll be using paper but one with a gps tracker would be great.

Saracen tenet 3 2014
Hi, has anyone any experience with a Saracen tenet 3? Or any Saracen bike at that matter?
I have seen one for £450 with shimano tiagra group set which seems like a very good price, to good infact.
I can not find any reviews anywhere about the bikes so it's making me cautious to spend the bucks.
I was going to go for a specialised Allez sport compact for £470 with shimano sora group set, as I here the specialised bikes are of good quality road bikes.
Anyone got any advice?

Re: Few Questions about my first Tour. (Norway)
pal wrote:I can't answer all your questions, but a couple of thoughts (based on my experiences of touring in Norway):
GPS: generally I think you don't need it for Norway -- there aren't that many roads to choose from! (And the signposting is generally good.) A useful feature of Norwegian roads is that they have regularly-spaced signs (usually at 1km intervals) giving the number of the road and the distance to (or from) the next major junction (or sometimes to the nearest county boundary): useful for reassurance that you're on the right road, and for keeping track of how far you've gone. The one exception could be getting through and out of Bergen (though you could avoid having to do this if you head south/east from the airport, I suppose): threading a route around the main roads and tunnels can be fiddly. The same will apply for getting into Oslo. I use the OMaps app on my phone for city navigation: you can pre-load maps (so avoid data charges), and then just use it like google maps. The only other navigational foible to be aware of is that Norwegians are very keen on building new tunnels (and, to a lesser extent, bridges) -- it's worth checking the latest maps before you set off, or you might find that the road suddenly starts doing unexpected things...
Waterproofs: Norwegian rain is Proper Rain. I suppose that might be an argument for not bothering with waterproofs (on the grounds that even with waterproofs, you'll still end up getting wet...), but I'd say it's worth trying to stay dry for as long as possible (especially if you're camping). It can get pretty cold, too, so I'd say it's worth having some sort of leg covering which you'd be happy cycling in in the rain -- leg warmers, perhaps, if you don't like cycling in waterproof trousers.
Power meter: definitely not an essential for touring, imho. Some sort of cycle computer can be useful for navigation (and for the satisfaction of knowing how much ground you've covered), but a very basic one will do the job perfectly well (and in many ways is preferable for touring, because the battery will last pretty much indefinitely: one less thing to charge).
Charging stuff: I take a solar charger, which usually provides just enough juice for a phone (and can be topped up at power-sockets too, and then just used as a spare battery pack). You're right that it's important to have lights for the tunnels (and worth considering taking a high-viz vest too).
Norway's a great place to cycle: I hope you have a great time!
(ps re train to Stockholm: it's very easy to take a bike on Norwegian trains, but pretty much impossible to put one on Swedish trains. So Olso-Gothenburg would be ok with a bike, because that route's run by NSB [Norwegian Railways], but getting beyond that would be trickier. Mind you, Gothenburg to Stockholm is quite a nice ride too!)
Thanks very much for the useful information. yeah I cant even afford a power meter anyway
when I get water proofs, im going to get high vis ones so that I don't need both high-vis and a water proof.
Thanks fort he heads up on the Swedish trains, would never have thought about that.

First Tour (Norway)
Hi I'm planning on doing about a 3/4 week tour in the beginning of August. I'm 20 and doing it Alone. I'll mostly be wild camping. Flying into bergen from Dublin (flight most likely to oslo then on to Bergen) I plan to cycle to Voss, then take the Rallavegen to Flam where I'll take boat through the fjord and back to Flam. Continuing on down the Rallavegen and to its end, I'll hopefully then make it to Oslo.
If I have time/money I might cycling/train it to Stockholm.
Here's just a few questions.
Should I have a GPS? Id rather not (feels like cheating) but I don't want to get lost and I'm not great with a map as I often don't know where I am to begin with.I don't want to waste days trying to find my way or take a one wrong turn and be set back days. Norway seems to have little towns in the centre so it should be straight forward enough just following one road from town to town? (Obiviously knowing the towns names before I go and where non cyclist tunnels are)
I'll be bring my SLR camera and phone which will need charging, do you recommend a dynamo? There a bit expensive so I'm not sure. Was gonna buy extra batteries and portable chargers. Anyone use a dynamo? Might need to for lights in tunnels?
I'm currently using just standard running shoes and pedals. I see clip less and cleats would greatly increase my efficiency cycling but there adding to my basket of expenses
would cage pedals suffice or should I just spend a bit extra for clip less? Better for long run.
Also would I need fully waterproof clothing or is shower proof enough for touring and wild camping? Again thinking of money, waterproof always seems expensive ha.
Finally, a lot of people recommend a power meter for efficiency and to teach me how to pace etc but they are as expensive as my bike!! Can't understand why, is there no work around?
Yes I'm fairly new to cycling and really noobie to touring.
I'm saving for a tour bike at the moment and all of the above expenses are scaring me as I'm a student with little money
Planning a weekend tour to test myself first before I go.
Thanks

yeah if I'm spending £700+ i's definitely going to test a few bikes. I'm on a 53 frame atm.. doesn't seam to have any faults but then again I cant compare it to anything.
Pardon me if I appear nosey, but I have a couple of thoughts that are more about you than your prospective new bike......
Might it be worthwhile doing a couple of local trips using your existing bike to see how you get on touring, before you buy a new bike and jet off to foreign parts?
If you spend time and money now to get a bike that is right for you, it can be a joy for the next 20 years or more. If you end up with something less than suitable, it could spoil what sounds like a fairly expensive trip.
Your not being nosey what so ever, more helpful
I have a small tour planned locally but I don't even think my bike is up for it, it has no rack never mind panniers. I might just camp one night and then return home. Using a bag back or something, I don't know
I was planning on using my new bike for the small tour but you do have a good point which makes me think again..

Re: I need help on choosing a Touring bike
Thanks everyone! This is a really helpful forum
I'm from Northern Ireland.. Not sure if there is many good bike shops here, most of them have only road/mountain bikes.
I'm 5"8 and I've a 33 leg. I'm recommended to get a 57cm frame but the Dawes Galaxy I want it only in 58cm which isn't much of a difference but I heard its good to get a smaller rather than a bigger frame? Is this true.
Also the Dawes super Galaxy on spa cycles is a 2012 model and more expensive than the 2014 on the site I'm looking at on winstanleys bikes.

fluffybunnyuk wrote:I ride a dawes galaxy. wouldnt trade it for anything! Its very sturdy, reliable, and the handling is great under load(a bit fast unloaded). Only real complaint is front rings are too big 44/32/22 would probably be better for the hills. Very comfortable to ride over distances.
Whatever you pick, take the time to protect it with helicopter tape on the frame, and a nice dose of oil on the bolts, screw threads before using it, and it'll repay you for years.
Good additions would be a dynamo hub, and suitable tyres for norway.
Thanks everyone for the reply.
Fluffybunnyuk, is the helicopter tape for the frame? How often should I oil my bike
and does it matter what oil I use?
lastly is the dynamo hub for powering lights on my bike? for tunnels etc?

Re: Touring in Norway
Hi, I'm doing a 3/4 week tour in August of Norway
its my first tour and I'm doing it alone. (I'm 20)
I'm planning on flying to Oslo and cycling to Bergen then taking a few days/week to get boat up on of the fjords and relax before flying home to Ireland. I'm planning on cycling to geilo and then to Voss because I think its an official cycle route that's done very year by lots of people. I might do the Rallarvegen.. if that's not the same thing? or it might overlap the route from geilo to Voss, I'm not sure.
Seeing as your 16 or you scared at all? like with camping in the wild etc.? I'm terrified but I'm forcing myself to do it. I think I'm scared of quitting more than anything though.
Anyway I wish you good luck in your travels

I need help on choosing a Touring bike
Hi, this is my first post
I need help choosing a tour bike.
Ridgeback Voyage 2015 -£800 + £120 off very over priced equipment on the same site if I buy it. (also not great brands)
http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/m115b187s860p15285/RIDGEBACK_Voyage_2015/RS_GB/51965?gclid=Cj0KEQiA9eamBRDqvIz_qPbVteABEiQAnIBTEORqlyJsjlsxwkGY2fTPzN1YJa2BdtmHJeczWBXIfOsaAnKB8P8HAQ
Dawes Super Galaxy 14 - £800 its down from £1300 which is very tempting.
http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/59705/Dawes_Super_Galaxy_2014_Bike
Revoultion Country Traveller - £600
This seems to be very similar to dawes bike but cheaper. Its also more to my liking in price but I'm not sure if its worth it if I'm getting a £1300 bike for £800.
Has anyone any experience with these bikes because it is hard to get reviews for a tour bike or does anyone know if they are overpriced or not?
I am planning on doing a tour of Norway in August by myself for 3/4 weeks.
Its my first tour... very scared.
Thanks
