How airtight are your Ortliebs?

I use the same ortlieb pannier for commuting. I roll it shut and clip it shut. Same way every time but over this year I found out I could force any trapped air out even if closed tight. That means air must be leaking out of the bolt holes, there's no fabric damage and I've been closing drybags for 3...

Re: Tyres for a family holiday?

Black tyres are good .... some with tan walls may be fashionable ... but black tyres are good .... As you've been on this forum for over 4 years you should probably have some ideas of your own ...... But all my tyres are black and they seem to work just fine ..... :D 4 years? My pluses are only get...

Re: Tyres for a family holiday?

Are the frog bike tyres both kenda? I thought they'd be cheaper versiona of block 8s and kendas. I know Iskabikes do use them but frog is next tier. If kendas then I'll put the hybrids on for touring and small block for home use (well his school mates ask have cheap blocky tyres so he might as well ...

Re: What can we learn from LGBTx campaigns?

You could argue that apart from civil partnerships (in employment only) am those are some part of you that you could arguably not change. You can't change race, gender (is sex the right term not gender? Unless you go through reorientation which is kind of the same part of you that can't be changed),...

Re: Tyres for a family holiday?

Forgot to say the kids bike has either nobbly off road tyres or smoother treaded hybrid tyres. They came with the bike (frog 20"wheeled bike). They look guys tyres even though own brand. I think I read that a good brand made them but could be wrong. Should I replace them or not? Currently nobbl...

Tyres for a family holiday?

Just wondering any recommendations for touring tyre use. Last year my hypers punctured the first day when we were trying to get to our campsite after a tiring day for our youngster. They're dead anyway. One punctured with a hole through it and the other needs replacing because there's cuts everywher...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

The green party worry me deeply. Their political aim at best is to win enough seats to get into coalition where they can influence. I've seen some very questionable local council decisions and indecisions due to green party gaining sufficient seats to disrupt. Once they had sufficient seats they had...

Re: Tory leader - place your bets

What stuff they curb during their coalition with tories? I read that a lot but curious where your evidence is. I'm not doubting you have good evidence backing that up but joining a supply type agreement with DUP when under a different leader isn't IMHO a good piece of evidence. For all his major fa...

Re: Commuter for touring or tourer for commuting?

I looked at getting a tricross once. Lot of my price bracket at the time so got the PX bike. It was sold as entry CX then like tricross was. But IMHO they're too between bikes. Most bike shops round here used to say they were mostly intended for touring and commuting by the people buying them. I thi...

Re: Commuter for touring or tourer for commuting?

Don't be so sure. Whilst I'm quite happy not to match your case if going under a van it's not been accident free. First off the usual big pothole incident that had me off. The numerous times I've hit the deck on icy patch. Or the time my rear wheel came out of the rear of the frame and was dragged a...

Critical mass events where cyclists meet to raise awareness of their issues. Is that not a little bit pride march in style?

Re: I have no idea where to post this - dogs on leads

A cyclist coming up on pedestrians from behind, with or without dogs, has a role as a responsible person to make their presence known. Did the ped know you were coming? Could it realistically be a quiet stretch that they'd never had issues letting the dog out on a long retractable lead? Try to look ...

Belgium Campsites?

Anyone know of a good website for finding Belgium campsites? Struggling to find them online for some reason. Alternatively would I find places at a tourist information place if there is one in zeebrugge? Cycle touring with a young child going solo. That means a very short distance as low as 30km som...
