Re: sleeping set up for touring couples

I've got a golite quilt rated to -7°C and it packs down to less space than a 500no bottle. You can get insulated mats like the neo air ones from thermarest that roll up to about the same volume. It's possible to achieve 14l pannier sleep system. I could backpack with a 20 litre sack including food, ...

Re: The New Top Gear: For better or worse...

So there's a link between Clarkson's wealth and the cost of the cars on the show. So Clarkson was just reviewing the cars people wanted, well people with his money that is. Out of touch with the common man but in touch with stockbroker belt that he comes from now. Still would rather see the jet kaya...

Re: The New Top Gear: For better or worse...

Anyone remember when TG was about cars normal people might drive? You know, comparing 4 similar cars and talking about economy, practicality as well as speed. Power was a quoted fact in the piece not the be all and end all of it. A programme you might actually watch if you wanted to buy a new car. I...

Re: Quick route from Kendal to Broughton in Furness

There could be a good route by getting the train from Oxenholme to Windermere then across on the car ferry. After that a way around Coniston water and round that way. Not sure how long or even the best route but you could enjoy yourself going that way as well. Would be my preference as I'm not a fan...

Re: The New Top Gear: For better or worse...

Like Little and Large trying to be Morecambe and Wise, it doesn't work. Now you're sullying the names of both Little & Large, and Morecambe & Wise...... Where does the two Ronnies fit into this comparison? There's a long history of opposite double acts and a wide variation in ability. Not be...

Re: Any family touring groups?

I live just off NCN6 and there's a canal towpath nearby too. I see families cycling a lot. Individual family units and in groups of families. It's just there's nothing organized. I suspect if someone started such a group and got backing to publicise it you'd get families coming out to join in. As fa...

Re: Wearing helmet in UK - adults and children

As said above it's your choice to wear a helmet or not. I've only had a few instances of being told I should wear a helmet. The worst was from a salesman in a really good local bike shop. He flounced off in a huff that I didn't see things his way. He no longer works there, I hope the two things are ...

Re: Any family touring groups?

There's something similar for kids in Lancaster called the Cogset IIRC. A highly rated youth cycling project possibly an outcome of Lancaster getting one of the first cycling demonstration town funding cycles. AFAIK Lancaster area has produced some decent young competitive riders through that scheme...

Re: Can I have some opinions for a friend?

I've done 50 miles, took 16 hours with feed stops, kit stops (change of socks does wonders for morale) and a very light bag. It killed me despite being a challenge walker for about 2 or 3 years. Someone who didn't even feel a 25 mile walk with overnight kit. Apart from not being the plan, 50 miles i...

Re: Any family touring groups?

I'm thinking a national body would have a group outside of area and local setups that cater for families. Perhaps optimistic. There's nothing local as far as I can find at least. I've looked from Preston to south lakes. Nothing so far. I'm guessing a fair few groups meet up outside their area so liv...

Re: Any family touring groups?

Northwest near Lancaster. There's a local group but I've heard there's not many at the young family stage of life. Used to live near a very active local group with a very wide range of members/activities, but chose other sports so didn't join. Guess it's a postcode lottery with living near groups th...

Re: The New Top Gear: For better or worse...

I was away so missed it, or perhaps I've not missed anything. I did see a few newspapers running stories based around Chris Evans saying he worries top gear will kill him. Looked like desperate attempts to get publicity and made me think the first show was a flop.

Any family touring groups?

Simple really, are there any groups within CTC/CUK who cater for families on their tours? I'm new to touring with a young family and curious if the organization runs any groups or trips for families? It strikes me there's a social touring opportunity for the new all inclusive CUK.

Re: Podium Girls

Are there podium men for the women's races? Come to think of it,are there any women's races  ........ Why not have podium men for men's races? If there is nothing wrong with the image of podium men and women then is there an exemption for this role in equality laws that allows only men for wo...

Re: Podium Girls

Gainful employment? Perhaps stripping to your bikinis on a cold presentation platform to present your body and a trophy/medal/winners champagne bottle is gainful employment. They get paid it's a job. But what a job it is! It's about the female body, it must be or why have most of it uncovered? Of co...
