Re: Heads up Aldi

What do you think about the Bluetooth HR chest strap? Is that worth getting for £15?

Re: Heads up Aldi

I've had an Aldi for some time now and they have had a decent use over the last 9 months. Bought for a tenner as a cheap trial of SPDs with the view if i didn;t get on with SPDs then no loss. Ended up without getting the pedals so just used as cycling shoes on flat pedals. Worked well apart from the...

Re: The Big Cycling Debate

I must be cut from a different cloth because I wear clothing appropriate to the activity I am doing. I ride to work in clothing that is comfortable on a bike. BTW I don't actually wear lycra because to me there are very comfortable clothing that functions on the bike without screaming cyclist like a...

Re: The Big Cycling Debate

I think that I may have caught a glimpse of a cycling jacket in the background at some point. Even at a meeting for The Big Cycling Debate, nobody is turning up looking like they came on a bike. Is this a pride in being able to travel by bike without having to "be a cyclist" with all the ...

Re: The Big Cycling Debate

Lancaster was a cycling demonstation town, one of the original 5 towns despite being a city. It got a bit more money and the Green party got more seats/clout on the council as a kind of balance of power. The city gridlock got a nice new painted cycle lane painted into the left hand lane of the one w...

Re: mini trangia stove flame question

The best option is a caldera cone. There is a version that comes in two parts so they fit into the pot. They are designed to fit certain pots so as to have their own style burner located in the right location for the pot. Their burner is also optimised for lower oxygen levels in the enclosed windshi...

Re: 50-32T & 11-32 cassette or 46-26T & 11-25T cassette?

Actually I used to ride an average speed of 21 to 24 mph on my commute using my old road bike. That was based on a measured distance on the map and the stopwatch pressed manually on and off at each end of the journey (door to door time measured not travelling time). I had no bike computer or phone t...

Re: rEMOVAL OF LOCKS BY lEICESTER cITY cOUNCIL

Just remembered that locks have even started appearing on a footbridge over the River Greta in Keswick. I don't often go over it but last time I was in Keswick I had to park further away and it was quicker to walk through the park and over this bridge. There were about 20 padlocks, many of them were...

Re: Do you wear a helmet?

Well as a none helmet wearer I found myself getting caught on the bandwagon that non-cyclists get on with the helmet thing. As a background i have not replaced my stolen bike yet and all other bikes are out of action so I am no longer riding. Having said that I am all hyper over the serious possibil...

Re: New Peak District routes?

I've only done short bits of the Tissington and high peak trails (railway lines) and IMHO the peak district seems relatively well set up for riding. The bits I have done are in the white peaks to the south and even the small roads are great for cycling. Anything to add to that is very positive and w...

Re: Dental Trust!

There is a real problem with this malpractice. Basically nhs dentists get given these payment units by the local commissioning group of the nhs. This is based on so many in each of the payment groups. Can't remember the details but IIRC these are £15, £50 and more for the patient depending on the ty...

Re: 50-32T & 11-32 cassette or 46-26T & 11-25T cassette?

I was thinking a lower number for an out and out tourer is better about 26T on chainring combined with a 34T on the cassette would give real granny ring capability like on my hybrid. That is effectively where you get less than one revolution of the rear wheel from one complete revolution of the peda...

Re: 50-32T & 11-32 cassette or 46-26T & 11-25T cassette?

I think I only used the hybrid granny gear maybe 2 or 3 times in 1.5 years I had the bike. First time I dropped into it I didn't feel it if you know what I mean. That was on a steepish hill and I had changed a bit late. Ended up stomping on the pedal and nothing there. You have to understand my prev...

Re: 50-32T & 11-32 cassette or 46-26T & 11-25T cassette?

Just been on Sheldon site and looked at mph @ 80rpm figures for the three options, just to compare to something I might understand. The results seem to show me that the 46/36 with 11-25 10 speed option and the 50-34 with 11-32 9 speed option are very similar. The 50/34 with 11-32 9 speed option has ...
