Re: Gangs of youths on national cycle route.....

I feel sure someone can come up with a link to a pedestrian attacking a cyclist, and even more sure that someone can come up with story a of a motorist attacking a cyclist. They're the overt signs of a sick society :? Well yes I agree with you entirely 100 percent, but surely you can see the point I...

Re: Gangs of youths on national cycle route.....

This thread has started to miss the point. It isn’t whether cycle paths are safer than roads generally. The OP has had a specific problem on a particular path. I don’t buy the idea that these kids are not aware that they are intimidating someone. Judging by the description that is exactly what they...

Re: Gangs of youths on national cycle route.....

It's just a thought but perhaps those worried about danger from a group of youths shouldn't go cycling on the roads . You're vastly more likely to be killed or seriously injured by a respectable adult driving a motor vehicle. Compared to that threat all others are insignificant. Exactly, I was wait...

Re: Mavic A319 / Tyre compatability

I thought that the 'received wisdom' was that a 28 mm tyre on a 19 mm rim would give a worse ride than a 28 mm on the more ideal width of 15-17 mm? You could well be correct, but I also used the Gatorskins on some Mavic X517 rims as well and they have a 17mm internal width and i could not really no...

Re: Gangs of youths on national cycle route.....

Yes I can see by the postings here that we obviously need to compile some kind of a list of 'type’s' that should be avoided and obviously banned from cycle tracks or just society in general. Perhaps a bit of ethnic cleansing need to take place to remove people we think are not worthy to exist, you m...

Re: Mavic A319 / Tyre compatability

you might find an acceptable compromise for the wintertime is running a lighter-built tyre at the front than the back. cheers That's not a bad idea actually and not something I have considered before, there's certainly plenty of life left in the one Gatorskin that didn't encounter the 'bottle'. I a...

Re: Gangs of youths on national cycle route.....

Obviously the best thing to do is to buy a car and then you just have to walk down the driveway and lock yourself in a metal box from one end of the journey to another. There you are OP, that is the answer, give up the bike because if you don't you will be attacked by youth's - that has to be the a...

Re: Mavic A319 / Tyre compatability

Thanks Granville for the "headsup" certainly seem ok and a tad quicker on the commute They were certainly very good commuting tyres for me and the only puncture I had was when I cycled over a broken and jagged upturned base of a bottle or jar that nothing would have stopped quite frankly....

Re: Mavic A319 / Tyre compatability

Yes I have done this as well and they will be fine, the Gatorskins are very puncture resistant and used them for a couple of years but they are such a dead feeling tyre and slip like hell in the wet on ironwork, tar banding and raised road markings that I needed a rest from the anxiety :D I discover...

Re: Gangs of youths on national cycle route.....

maybe talk to them, treat them as human beings rather than possible muggers? they are on summer holidays now so have time to kill. This is a good idea, I think. The kids tend to see me as a curiosity and a bit weird, more than anything, mainly because most people of my age (58yrs) around here, are ...

Re: PTFE spray as chain lubricant

I have been using a PTFE spray (GT85) on my chains for years and I have never had any problems. I bought 5 tins at the last Aldi bike stuff sale, so should have enough for years at the rate I use it. I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for 'specialist' chain applications, the companies that market...

Re: Clean front and rear gear sprockets in situ or remove?

I have used GT85 on all mine and my children's bikes for many years and have had no problems whatsoever. Don't get me wrong if people have the time and want to take off and strip down their chains and cassettes and chainrings etc, every few months or every year and 'boil' them 'de grease' them, 'lu...
