Re: Weldtite Tyre Sealant

Yes your dead right of course, and that is exactly what I was trying to say, only not very well by using the word slime. The stuff I used was very thin so that it would flow into the presta valve stem with the valve removed. I'm sure it was latex based the same as the Weldtite stuff, but there was n...

Re: Weldtite Tyre Sealant

Poundland do a version of this and I have used it quite successfully on my daughters bikes with schrader valves. They seemed to get punctures with such alarming regularity at one time that i was willing to try anything and it seems to have done the job. Some Poundland stuff stuff costs more than a p...

Re: Wheelbarrow inner tube 4/4.8 -8

Daughter's wheelbarrow has had a visitation from the p* fairy. Can I use a 26" inner tube doubled around the rim as a temporary/ semi permanent fix. MTB inner tubes are readily available from Poundland. I did this about 3 years ago and the wheel is still fine but it wasn't a 26 inch tub...

Site is loading very, very slowly here today. Have given up trying to access it twice now and only persevered to post in this thread, will try again tomorrow. All other sites are loading as normal so I don't think it's my end.

Re: Bike Torch Mount For A Broke Student

For my teenage daughters bike I purchased a couple of these mounts: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Bike-Bicycle-Light-Lamp-Front-Torch-LED-Flashlight-Mount-Bracket-Holder/2269906169?iid=162566612232 Not from the above seller. I cant remember who I got them off, but think it was a UK seller, similar price ...

Re: Keeping bottles sterilised

I have 2 Isostar bottles, grey with a yellow screw on wide top with blue Isostar writing on them. I got these free with a cycling magazine. Well, I had to ask for the bottle when I purchased the mag as they had been removed from the plastic bag surrounding it as they were obviously difficult to stac...

Re: worn rims; why you should be concerned and when you should be worried

I had a Raleigh mountain bike in the early 90's (Dyna-Tech Ogre XT) that had rims with a similar section to the VP20 above. The rims were labeled Bontrager BCR-1 front and BCR-2 rear (made by Weinmann i think). The BCR-1 weighed 400g I believe so was a pretty light rim, the BCR-2 rear was a bit heav...

Re: C. W. ALEXANDER FRAMES, CARDIFF.

I have fond memories of Charlie and his shop when I was a teenager in the late 70's, myself and a friend used to cycle down on a Friday evening from Caerphilly usually after work. He built us a number of wheels that I never had any problem with and must have spent a fair bit of money on accessories ...

Re: Giro Republic LX Shoes ( leather touring type )

Thanks for that, hopefully the sole won't get much worse, or I'll get some shoe glue on them, as I can't find the receipt to claim a warranty. Its a myth that you need a receipt to claim under any guarantee/warranty, you just need 'proof of purchase'. If you paid with a credit/debit card then get h...

Re: Mobile phones; PAYGO

I use ASDA mobile for this purpose, I believe you must use at least every six months but apart from that is very cheap (8p per minute calls, 4p per text and 5p per MB for data) and the credit will not expire. Runs on the EE network so has very good coverage in my experience. Order free sims from her...

Re: Dawes Galaxy Classic 531 2016

Well the Dawes web site strangely says that the frame is made from 'Reynolds 531 Double Butted Chromoly', so who knows what that means? Then the forks are described as 'Classic Style Chromoly', so by that logic then they could be 531 as well? Of course it could mean that the frame is 'Double Butted ...

Re: Owners of 1991 Raleigh Dynatech MTBs: your opinions please

Bought my Dyna-tech in 92 I think it was, Ogre xt mountain bike with the MT4 frame I believe. It has three titanium main tubes, titanium chain stays and mang-moly seat stays which are 531 according to retrobike (but who knows?), they are certainly flexible as when you squeeze the brake leavers to ap...

Re: Aldi set up online cycle kit retailing service

Ive got a pair of the Aldi 'mountain bike' shoes. Wore them for the first time this year yesterday. They are the black ones with silver straps (combination of velcro and a ratchet system). See pic below. Ive had them for years (5 or 6 maybe?), still in great condition and just as comfy as my 'best' ...

Re: Waterproofing jacket

Nikwax is great stuff, I have been using the machine wash waterproofing solution and the spray on liquid for over 20 years on all my cycling and walking gear including shoes and boots. I usually treat everything at the end of the summer and this makes non waterproof garments such as cycling tights a...
