My daughter is a horse rider she and other riders I know state they would always prefer a cyclist to call out when a short distance behind. I always shout "cyclist passing" then both horse and rider know you are there.

So now you want the advertisers to pay more
rather than just clear off .....please make your mind up ?
Do you want a Big Mag with ads to sub the price
or Smaller Mag ads free and a whopping increase in membership fees !

Having been involved with publishing, my mind has been made up for a long time. Less advertising at an increased cost. Simple. Sell 28% only. The advertisers will still be there and happy to pay because they are marketing with less competion. It is you that either doesn't want to understand or is just happy talking drivel. Do your research on people before assuming you know what they are thinking.

Beautiful town and campsite. But in June last year it was hot hot hot, with thunderstorms at night.

So get rid of the unwanted adverts Mr Backpacker !
Great idea so simple ...............but is it ?
Just stop and think before you go ahead
and scare off all the nice advertisers that support the CTC .
How much are you prepared to pay for your
new revised no advert magazine ££££££££
When you find out the cost do let us know ???
My guess would be £7 a month
I suspect you would be the first to complain about the increased cost!

Previous postings have stated the industry norm for advertising in an in-house magazine should not exceed 28% Cycle is currently over 50%. It is a known fact that if you attract this level of advertising you are selling it too cheep.

I have never compained in my life about the cost of anything that I regard as value for money.

Didn't know we had sensitive people on this forum. Isn't the Tea Shop for banter and fun?

Perhaps they should read this book: http://www.amazon.com/What-You-Think-No ... 051509479X

Terry T, I put your last point to a member of council and was told they could not get anyone of the calibre (that raised a smile with me) of Dan Joyce for the money they pay.

The phrase something about "peanuts and monkies" came to mind.

You have me confused. Why?

I had 3 photo studios and 2 colour processing laboratories which gave employment to 25 staff. Did that make me an anorak?

When I first started in photography many more years ago than I care to remember, one of my old mentors always said; "learn to see the picture before you even think about picking up the camera". I still rate it as the best photography advice one could give.

While doing cycle touring and using a digital compact for ease of carrying, these two features are important to me.

It must have a view finder that allows me to compose without the screen. This way the batteries will last far longer.

It has to have the capability to use AA batteries should charging be impossible.

At present I am using a Canon Powershot A700 which has both and a versatile lens. Not the best of quality lens but nothing image software cannot correct. I should point out I am comparing the lens to the ones on my DSLR and film cameras.

Keep looking on ebay. But as everything else, you generally get what you pay for.

Having brought and used most makes of tent over the years, I think without doubt the Hilleberg Nammatj range are best for cycle touring.

In my experience it is extremely difficult to get any payment out of an airline for damage to a bicycle.

Whatever you do never let an airline know the bike is insured, they will only tell you to claim from that. This has twice happened to me.
