Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

I've got an email chain with his estimated cost per my (fairly standard) specs (~£1200; thought I'd be decent and deposit most of the cost to limit his pre-expense!), various promise times not met (several times), etc. and confirmation of the deposit/payment so I think it'd be pretty hard for him to...

Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

A follow-up to this, for the information of those interested and those with ideas. As mentioned above, I transferred £1000 to Goff in September 2016 and no progress had been made (other than excuses) as of march of this year when I asked to cancel the order. The last communication I had with Goff wa...

Re: Drop bar mirror.

Of course a tricycle can't fall over (unless you don't lean on a corner!), but on bikes I usually fold them in when parking, just in case. Mirrycle sells replacement parts - arms, mirrors, all other bits - (they're us made, so easy enough to order here, maybe too much of a hassle in the UK). They're...

Re: Drop bar mirror.

Yes, this one: https://www.mirrycle.com/product/mountain-mirrycle-mirror/ It comes with two end wedge bits to account for bars of different diameter - fits fine on 'normal' bars I've used it on. Here's a photo of one on my Longstaff trike (I left the second 'arm' se4gment off on this one): http://hu...

Re: Drop bar mirror.

Another 'vote' for the Mirrycle - I like brake levers with the cables from the tops and use that version mostly, but the bar-end version is even sturdier and less hassle to install. Of course it precludes use of bar-end shifters. The one variant I can't find a cure for is my butterfly bars... no 'dr...

Re: Servicing MKS Sylvan Touring pedals

These are my favo(u)rite pedals, and have them on all my bikes (the trike has Suntour Superbes!). Regreasing and adjusting them when new is a great 'old style' activity that I enjoy. I usually 'overpack' them, figuring that the extra grease oozing out helps keep dirt out a little. The only thing tha...

Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

My Woodup/Kevin Sayles a few years ago was a 9 month wait, mentioned beforehand and worth it, and my Stanforth Kibo (Lee Cooper) was I think about 4 or so - shortish, but he's sort of famous for semi-production line methods and my customization (change the zed to an essss if you like there) from the...

Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

Har har, the travel to show up would be more than the filing fee... If I had the timing to take a cycling tour in the UK I'd try it out of principle though... (thinking about maybe a UK tour next year though!)

Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

Yes, a polite cancellation & refund has proven fruitless thus far. A couple of months ago, after another long delay I asked if we could call the whole thing off because of the time already passed and continuing delays in communication, (which I tried to politely put as to help him overcome his b...

Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

at near 70, life seems to have been very long indeed now, considering all the stuff that's happened during it. And, despite time accelerating as one gets older, I will never give up the pleasures of delayed gratification I liked the above philosophy as it's similar to mine. The main problem is that...

Re: what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

Could be as above, but what worries me is long gaps of communication and vague excuses indicating continuous or repeated extreme woe. It sort of felt like he's gotten in some sort of duress that made framebuilding either personally or financially impossible. It felt like the delay would be perpetual...

what's going on with framebuilder steve goff?

Hope this is OK to ask here... I'm having trouble communicating with the framebuilder steve goff. He's had a considerable deposit on a frame build for about 18 months (we'd been communicating on it for about a year before that), but the only communication I have gotten since is vague excuses after r...

my Longstaff trike on the shore of Lake Superior

Here's a photo a couple days ago of my new 1993 Longstaff trike on the shore of Lake Superior, Upper Peninsula of Michigan (I am sure the only Longstaff trike in the UP, probably the only English trike, maybe the only Longstaff anything...) Sorry the horizon's a wee crooked; a digicam snapshot un-za...
