Re: Fingerprints - USA

Unfortunately everybody is now guilty in americaland except the ruling class and their sycophants, and 'Total Information', especially biometrics and other 'permanent' identifiers is the dream of the power machine. It's the nightmare world of the future.

will the Var RL-27000 chain whip work on 5-8 speed freewheels?

Hi - probably a silly question here but in my decades of cycling & wrenching on cycles I've used most all tools except chain whips, and now need to use them for 5-8 speed Suntour & Sachs freewheels (not freehubs). I don't use anything 'higher' than 7 (but just bought a NOS Sachs 8-speed I mi...

open external links in new page/tab

I wonder why URLs in posts don't open up in a new page/tab anymore... (this is easy to do in code) I like that as you can open several links referred without having to lose the original or wait for a 'open in new tab' right-button menu (it's also standard on most forums too, so expected). Perhaps it...

Re: Custom frame builder - who would you choose?

I went a little hog-wild last year and bought or ordered three English frames... The first one was a Kevin Sayles Woodrup - great work of course (he's been building almost 45 years), and a fun plus is that he posted photos from the gathered tubes & lugs to the finished item - here it is (again):...

Re: Pair of Wheel build price

I paid not long ago $250 for a pair of 40-spoke wheel builds (I've got this kink for 40-spoke wheels, and front/rear symmetry), which included the spokes and post, from a well-regarded builder. That's probably ~$50-60/wheel for the time once costs subtracted, I considered that fair for the builder's...

Tange Levin, my overall favo(u)rite since the early 80s. Made in Japan with expected quality, good looking, durable, and cheap.

Re: Clipless MtB pedals; they all have clips!

Has anyone used toeclips this century?, are you nuts!? (or am I??) I've used only toe clips this century! And the last one too! - well, with the exception of about ten years when I thought Looks, of the style above, were the Cat's meow. (Actually, I might dig them out again if it turns out they are ...

Re: Getting curious about Trikes! Where to start?

A follow-up: after a year's search, I finally found one here in the US, and my new used 1992 Longstaff 2wd arrived today! When I get it all polished up will post pictures. Still have to learn to ride it, but another month before snow's gone here (Upper Peninsula of Michigan). I plan to start very sl...

Re: SICK OF IT - GEARS AND THINGS

I like 3x5! - nice wide cog spacing, plenty enough of ratios for me, etc. Of course unavailable I guess on freehubs, so stop reading now! I've got a stash of nos Suntour freewheels, too. In fact just got a brand new wheelset built that arrived yesterday - Phil Wood hubs, threaded for freewheel! With...

Re: we all lose!

Nothing strange about Brexit or Mr Trump's victory Well it is strange to me, on the king donald thing at least, as making him dictator (with the shady ayatollah pence in the background) is so completely counterproductive to those who (generally) voted for him from any perspective other than the mil...

Re: Trump Wins!

Holy moly, I didn't know about the farage thing... (it's early here and I should be working but can't). Since americans know as much as trump on farage - nothing - it may not even appear in the us news much. Anyway, I guess I must be getting old (I'm not that old!) because increasingly nothing makes...

Re: Recommend me some 26" mudguards

Ah, the chance to post about bicycles instead of politics... As some others have said, I like my Berthoud stainless 'fenders' - sturdy, not really all that heavy, after a while the little stone dents are a sort of mark of adventures had, etc. I had them on my 85 stumpjumper (which stupidly I sold ba...
