Thanks Keith
I think your conclusion is correct. I've refitted the 52 39 30 chainset and the shift is flawless. The chainset you describe is listed as a treking chainset. I may consider that route.

Re: Front mech woes - incompatibility - or am I a duff diy mecha
.Sorry to ask but you have checked the settings for the stop screws on the mech and adjusted the cable having moved the mech down.
Yep checked those too, and adjusted cable tension.
I'm thinking the mech is designed for a specific combination of rings, ie 52 39 30, I'll just refit the original crank just now to kep me going. I was just after some lower gears for a laden hilly tour.

Front mech woes - incompatibility - or am I a duff diy mecha
I'm try to adjust an Ultegra triple front mech fitted to my Roberts Audax frame. It worked perfectly before I swapped the crankset. I fitted a Middleburn crank onto an SKS Isis BB. The rings are Middleburn 50-34-28. Chain and cassette are used but unworn, cable and outer are new. Shifters are Ultegra Sti
The shift from the small ring to the middle requires pushing the lever past its first click and well over onto the second click to get the chain to move wen on the largest sprocket. The upshift onto the big from middle ring is hopeless. I have other triples on other bikes which work faultlessly.
I've tried adjusting the position of the mech clamp on the seat tube and rotating the mech relative to the chain rings. The improvements are only marginal.
There are two variables here. The crankset I replaced was an X type BB with a Bontrager triple 53 39 30.It was probably spaced out to 73mm. When I installed the SKS Isis BB I measured the BB shell. It was a 68 mm shell. There is a sticker on the BB which says you have to fit spacers to make up the difference to 73mm. I got two 2.5mm spacers. Are there other combinations of spacers adding up to 5mm that I could fit to space the axle in or out in either direction? Which side should I put them on?
Am I missing something obvious?

Re: Arkel stockists in the uk?
I realised that was possible, but made two errors. Thinking they'd be mailed from the uk and that the price would be in $. Turns out they are mailed from the US and the price was in £
On the positive side, those I've heard from those that have used them who say they are really well made and should last a very long time. It should outlast the overpriced zippered rubbish which fails too easily.

Replacing Karrimor Iberian Pannier elastics with what?
I've found an old pair of Karrimor Iberian panniers which I've had for years. They are still in great shape, however the elastics that secure the panniers to the rack at the bottom have lost their elasticity. Are these still available as a spare, if so where? if not, is there an alternative?

Re: Which Tubus rack combination?
My new Tubus Logo & Tara racks arrived today from here - great prices http://www.rockandrescue.co.uk/outdoor- ... #c147:c148
Its the first time I've seen Tubus stuff in the flesh. I have to say the quality welds look uber strong. I'll get them fitted to the Roberts over the weekend. Cant wait to get my panniers fitted and head for the hills.

Re: Which Tubus rack combination?
I've looked at the listings on te SJS Cycles site, the racks come in two sizes. One for 26 inch and another for 700c. Is the rack the same and its mounting kit different? It might be good given their price to have one rack that fits both. Is this possible?

Re: Which Tubus rack combination?
I think I have narrowed my choice down to Tubus Logo (r) Tara (f) racks.
The blub says that the lower pannier mounting of the Logo moves the panniers further back to increase heel clearance. I have size 11 feet so this would be a help. But does moving the panniers further back cause more flex in the rack/frame?
How well do Ortlieb front classic panniers mount on to the minimal looking Tara rack. Do they 'flop' around at all?
I've never seen these racks on the flesh or seen them in action.
Thanks in advance again.

Re: XT M770 hub - respace to 130mm?
I've used XT hubs on a mountainbike with no issues, I figured they'd be super durable on a road bike. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a deal on an Ultegra or Hope mono, Pro III or if I get lucky, Chris King hub.

XT M770 hub - respace to 130mm?
Is it possible to respace an XT M770 rear hub from 135mm to 130mm?
I'm looking for a durable rear hub with 36 spokes and 130m spacing . Is this a goer? What else should I consider?

Re: Front brake hangers with 1" Campagnolo headset?
Thanks for taking the time to look these out. The Shimano ones may well work and have the advantage that their 'drop' will allow a better cable routing from the bars. If you could find an adjuster that would be great.
Thanks Peter

Re: Front brake hangers with 1" Campagnolo headset?
Of course I'd be interested. The whole bike has been rebuild using mostly recycled parts, it would be a pity to have to buy a new one.
Somewhere in the region of 15mm from the steerer tube to the adjuster to clear the race below. If you could send me a picture that would help.
Thanks Peter

Is a Mavic MA3 rim as durable as a mavic Open Pro?
I've got a nice 36h Chris King hub I'm going to built into a lightweight touring wheel. I also have a Mavic MA3 rim. How durable were the MA3s for lightweight touring? Should I get an Open Pro instead.
Thanks MC
