Re: Are UK roads dangerous for cyclists?

I think British roads are too safe for cars. I like the term "Moton" referred to earlier as it sounds like something out of Dr Who. It gives the right level of perversity to the situation. I find it provides an evocative description of the mind set of many individuals and indiscriminate us...

Re: Are we riding too fast.

Thanks for the clarification mjr

I do think it's a sensible thing to do to at least recognise that there is an appropriate speed.

Re: Are we riding too fast.

Yes psamthe (Ian) I agree. 3mph would be the most appropriate speed in some situations especially when we can't see what may be happening. Sure stuff happens which is unavoidable and I agree that sometimes whatever you do a crash is going to happen. It puts me in mind of the person who may say upon ...

Re: Are we riding too fast.

I speak from the experience "utility cyclist" of watching others hammering down the road and getting into serious scrapes. Also they endanger people on foot. Just because cars are ok to do it does not in my view mean it's ok for us. My driving instructor never told me to keep up with traff...

Re: Are we riding too fast.

I read somewhere at some time that 16 mph was the suggested max for shared/dual use facilities. I think this is fair and to go any faster around people on foot is unfair on them. If speeds in excess of this are desired, then the road is your place. In urban situations I think Darwinism would prevail...

Re: Inadequate crash investigation?

Why was the Serious Collision Unit set up please. I am asking to be forgiven again, this time for my utter ignorance. Thanks in advance.

Re: Cyclist on trial for manslaughter

Out of respect to the family of the person killed I have not put forward this point until now. That is to say I think that the BBC and presumably other organisations have over reported this case. Had as much air time been devoted to every single pedestrian death caused by a motor vehicle the schedul...

Re: Cyclist on trial for manslaughter

I wonder if the frame had appropriate brake calliper drillings for road use. There seem to be a lot of manufacturers who supply frames without any drillings at all. This is ok if they are used on the track only. Suppliers don't always seem to make it clear whether their products actually have drilli...

Re: Never Appreciated I Was Such a "Slow" Cyclist

Don't stop ambodach! Cycling is a very individual activity, like a lot of things. It sounds like cycling is a big part of your life and the speed you do is personal to you. It's only when one is judged as a cyclist on speed or something else that divisions can begin. If you look at cyclists covering...

Re: Hit by car today - advice please

I think it's natural to feel sympathetic toward someone in distress and the driver sounds like she was. However, the fact is that they were in error. Now they may not have deliberately injured you and you may not have felt traumatised at the time, but I think you need to reflect on what happened. It...

It's not your fault Natural Ankling, that the person has anger issues. It must be a pretty wretched experience to hate that much and I feel pity for someone who reacts in that way to what sounds like highly considerate behaviour on your part. What I would take away from that encounter is a satisfact...

Re: ITV4 TDF Commentators Have Changed!

Initially I missed Phil and Paul, but now I think Ned and David actually add immense value to the coverage. Above all they seem to notice stuff that is really interesting, that seemed to be missed before. David particularly can see subtleties in the bunch that I would never have seen and he instantl...

I frequently have SOHF (sense of humour failure) syndrome ChrisOntLancs and I appreciate your gesture. I have a certain responsibility for my own response too, so I don't mind if Poe's law is waived if I understand your response correctly. I wonder what they did before emoticons, before tiny image f...

Re: Sick Of Roadie Groups !!!!

Just bicker with one voice and in one direction, then we'll get stuff done. I agree that bad cycling needs to be taken to task, but prejudicing against one group or another just seems to waste our energy and create unnecessary division. While any members of the motoring lobby looking in on our conve...
