Re: Sick Of Roadie Groups !!!!

I have seen many inconsiderate cyclists and none of them could be inserted into artificial pigeon holes like the OP seems to do. As long as we bicker about each other we're never going to see the bigger picture about where the changes really need to happen.

Re: How do you deal with an angry car driver?

Sometimes it's a good idea to imagine they are carrying a gun because a car is just as lethal in the wrong hands.

Re: Yobs in cars shouting abuse at cyclists for no reason?

To PDQ Mobile: My theory would be.... Well I don't really know where to start, but if I take the concept of what could be termed animosity towards cyclists, I think it includes a truly massive lack of empathy. Consider those who may choose to overtake closely, I mean they have not got a clue how the...

Re: Yobs in cars shouting abuse at cyclists for no reason?

It's quite amazing how perceptions change about something when someone actually bothers to experience that particular "something" for themselves. Dyed in the wool drivers I have observed upon riding a bike maybe for the first time having a deep reality check on what is really happening. Th...

Re: A good reason to bar cyclists

I don't really think it would have to be subject to some sort of limitation on cycling as the road is a no brainer to avoid for a cyclist in it's current format. What is needed here is a viable alternative which from the aerial seems non existent. The result is a ban on cycling by proxy, given there...

Re: Self righteous cameramen

Is it "self righteous" OR is it a way of ensuring that those who break the law are forced to take responsibility for their actions. I don't think that is self righteous at all. My own motivation is to raise awareness of the badly formed boundaries around what constitutes un-acceptable beha...

Re: Passing distance 1.5 or 2 m, opposing traffic

If "we" are talking about vehicles and Highway Code rule 163 then there are a heck of a lot of people ignoring this. To paraphrase the rule, if the obstruction is your side, you wait. Don't like so often happens just continue straight toward any oncoming vehicle. It is somewhat distressing...

Re: Restricting motor vehicles increases air pollution

There's one sure fire solution to the problem of vehicle emissions and that is to reduce the numbers of vehicles emitting them. Don't complain about cyclists holding up the serious business of driving, but have a look at how many cars have only one occupant. All the science in the world and debate o...

Re: Restricting motor vehicles increases air pollution

If you mean Robert Winston's tweet Vorpal, I couldn't agree more. Speaks for the attitude perhaps that cycle lanes take up the valuable road space that is for cars only. Hmmm. Pollution is due to internal combustion engines and it is misleading and ill informed to blame pollution levels on cycle lan...

Re: I like a good moan, but...

Yes pwa, wouldn't it be great if we could all just be human beings. Whatever differences we have would be offset by living and behaving around our common humanity. In this ideal world the imperfections of our humanity may prompt us to attempt to make a division between who was a "prat" and...

Re: How to React to Bad Drivers...?

It's a funny thing that when I meet people socially, (non MAMIL mode) maybe for the first time and say that I cycle I often get a tirade of ill feeling towards cyclists in general. Their somewhat negatively framed anecdotes about cyclists seem to be framed as if I personally occupy a place in their ...

Re: I like a good moan, but...

With cyclists looking to divide and conquer cyclists, who needs the motoring lobby? Quite, so. I mean, has the complainer not thought that the perpetrator could be someone who has been recently banned from driving for similar habits? Almost certainly, I would argue. I often wonder how certain cycli...

Here, here Graham well said. I wonder what the motives are for people like rick99 who post in this way. So keen to criticise others but offer very little insight into what they have to offer this forum.

Re: Unwanted Ingestion of Flies

I think I am still coughing up bits of this insect to this day. I did experience some GI issues too and I suspect the fly or whatever organism it was may have had some nasty germs on it's feet. This often happens and is very tiresome. Who knows what they have been stepping in before their untimely e...

Re: How to React to Bad Drivers...?

Eyes and ears open and mouth firmly shut is the best way to "react". The best (safest) way to deal with this in my extensive experience is to do absolutely nothing. I do not always get this right though and a momentary lapse of resolve leading to perhaps a head shake has led to some very s...
