Re: Gloves for cycling

I bought some cheap thinsulate woolly type gloves, new from a charity shop. They are warm and although they get wet I don't find the wet penetrates as the outside woolly absorbs the moisture. Maybe the wet would penetrate if fully saturated, but that hasn't happened

Re: balcony road from bourg d oisans

Great thanks all the info is there and street view worked ok now.

Hi Campag, I'll be on my own too and with gradients of 14% the descents look scary.

Any other advice on the risks?!

balcony road from bourg d oisans

I'm going back to the French Alps for the 11th time. As I'm 65 I have wanted to keep going as long as I can and revisiting my first trip: La berarde must be the most beautiful ride possible. There is a balcony ride parallel and north of the main road serving Le Puy d'oisans and Auris. As part of it ...

tacx have nicked my films

I used my tacx vortex with the films that I bought from them, so that i could climb Mont Vetoux etc in my garage. Tacx have now changed to a monthly subscription model and the cycling app has been replaced by the training app. My tablet broke and I can only dowmload the new training app and have no ...

badly let down by tacx, smart trainer with films

Well I'm 64 and have used the Tacx films on my Tacx Vortex for the last couple of years, and have paid to buy the films. At my age I'm not competitive and just enjoyed the challenge of riding up Mont Ventoux in my garage. Mostly I've used it in springtime to train for a trip to the Alps and don't us...

Re: Printers laser

I'm glad to find this thread as I bought a laser printer: I didn't think it so expensive and as I didn't use the inkjet printer so often it seemed to always have blocked nozzles or dodgy printing for one reason or another (head alignment etc) . As the laser printer does (supposedly a 1000 sheets )it...

new derailleur bigger jockey wheels

I bought a new 7 speed derailleur cage as I thought the old was seized but it's my winter bike and the cable had seized in the cable outer and the exixting derailleur seems ok. I might just keep the new unit for future use, but I notice that the jockey wheels are quite a bit bigger. I didn't have th...

tacx films, transfer to new tablet?

My 8 gb tablet doesn't have enough storage for me as my tacx app, with only 2 films is at the limit of storage. Annoying that the os takes 3 gb and there's all stuff ( hangouts etc) on there that I can't remove . I have put the tacx app onto the sd card, but it still appears in main storage, and whe...

I had the same thing with flies, about 14 mph too. Internet search gave a dragonfly at 30 mph.

just found ctc pedalling article

Recently found my April/ may copy of ctc cycle and read the pedalling dynamics article. I've done a search for follow -up views but either there aren't any or there are too many results even with filtering. Extraordinary that after many years of cycling that there is still discussion of pedalling te...

Re: Can anyone recommend a good Exercise Bike

Could you consider stretching to a smart trainer? I love it as I can go into the garage and climb an alp or pyrenees ; you don't have to do the whole climb as they can be divided into short sections. Being a bit short of time I can do a 20 or 40 min session (followed by some interval work) rather th...

the belledone

I have been to the Alps or Pyrenees for the last 8 years, so having done a good number of the big cols, I am thinking of doing some day rides in the Belledone (between Grenoble and Chambery). There looks to be a lot of choice although the cols are not really high. Does anybody have experience of and...

alps weather in july too hot?

I'm not sure whether to go towards end of july or as usual early september; july is more convenient. It usually works well in September in terms of weather except last year when the temperature on the first day was ~ 35 at valley level and more than 20 at the summit and on the climb to Meribel i'd d...

...Tacx smart trainer? I really only ride my bike in order to tour, I'm afraid I've lost any enthusiasm to go out and do the usual old routes, but I do want to get fit for a trip to the Alps. So I bought a Tacx Vortex. I've only used it to download some of the Tacx films, and the other day when I wa...
