Re: Deloitte Ride Across Britain ( 2011 - ongoing )

Just in case you have not seen them. RAB make the GPX files available: https://www.rideacrossbritain.com/2018-hub/ https://www.rideacrossbritain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Route-overview.pdf and an open profile on RWGPS https://ridewithgps.com/users/884670 A challenge that has endured for centur...

Agreed.

I don't know what kind of briefing they get about thinning out and breaking into groups to allow cars to leapfrog.

Second nature to many club riders, but I suspect something that would need to be briefed to many.

Re: Deloitte Ride Across Britain ( 2011 - ongoing )

And why chose main roads for goodness sake? I had a good look at the RAB route and think that in the main it is a decent route that avoids many of the main roads that other LEJOGers would take. They do see it as a USP that it is a connoisseur's route. However, as we all know there are some main roa...

Re: Deloitte Ride Across Britain ( 2011 - ongoing )

I looked at the cost and not for me plus I wouldn't want to do 100+ miles per day. 60 to 70 would suit me as per the Wimps but that did include our own making & breaking camp. The Deloitter's, I believe, it is all done for them. I was seriously considering the D_RAB as an option, I liked the id...

04:36 LEJOG44 world record attempt aborted. Ian, all support crew and observers are safe and well. With deteriorating favourable conditions, deep fatigue and an ever increasing gap to… https://t.co/ZZPtcHGysi Yes, real shame. Underlines the quality of previous attempts and the record holders. Re: Record attempt scheduled

I really should go to bed...

18hours in, he is at the same place that MB was when he was 16:47 in. So he seems to be 1:13 behind MB actual.

I still think this is as much about how much speed can be maintained over the last 300 miles.

Re: Record attempt scheduled

I think this is how much he was aiming to be ahead of MB (actual record run times) at the key checkpoints from here on in: Warrington 00:29 Wigan 00:30 Preston 00:25 Lancaster 01:01 Shap 00:37 Penrith 00:24 Carlisle 00:25 Gretna 00:41 Abingdon 00:30 Forth Bridge 00:37 Perth 01:17 Dalwhinnie  01:42 I...

Re: Record attempt scheduled

So he's in Warrington, an hour and a half behind his schedule. But remember his schedule would have put him 30 mins up on MB.

So I think he is an hour behind where MB was at this stage, BUT remember the problems that MB had later in the ride, they lost him a lot of time.

Wind forecast looks very favourable for tomorrow though. Looks like he might get wet with it though.

If I remember correctly, that was traffic light hell.

Re: Record attempt scheduled

Whitchurch is another issue. Always better for the normal LEJOGer to go through the centre of town on the old road as it's shorter and there's shops and facilities. Maybe quicker to do the bypass. Good road. Cycled through the town a few times, and driven that way in the old days, but since the byp...
