Re: Cyclist "spared gaol."

My first thoughts were, what penalty if Medina and his response similar, had been driving a car and hit the lady causing her the same injuries say on a zebra crossing. Would he have even been threatened with the possibility of gaol? That seems to depend on 'luck' of the police, prosecution, jury and ...

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

Result: Google car applies brakes - and squeals I do not know what this is. Could a lady pushing a bike with bags mean the software could not identify what this was? Does the software apply an automatic brake every time it does not recognise something - or does it keep on going in the hope this is ...

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

"you'll still need regular humans to get it the rest of the way." Why ....? Well we're not going to go from fully manual to fully automatic just like that. The first and easiest thing to crack will be motorway driving. This alone may shed some jobs, or stop further recruitment, as regiona...

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

Didn't think that was a particular secret? Not is it that AI is coming for jobs generally. Though I thought hgv drivers were more like 300-350k and initially driverless tech will take the motorway part of it out, you'll still need regular humans to get it the rest of the way. Given that most hgv dri...

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

And and and... we have been given no information of the broader circumstances other than the poor lady was not on the sidewalk and was walking with her bike, it infers she was in the roadway. She may have simply walked out in front of the car for some odd reason which means it is probably irrelaven...

Without the original to compare against I'm not sure how anyone could tell? However the contrast looks like it's been similarly increased with wash out in the dark and light areas.

Re: Corbyns Hat

The the silhouette is the same, it's just been protected on to a curved screen and warped accordingly.

The contrast/loss of dark details is not uncommon with protectors either.

So no, I don't think they've done anything other than cut and pasted him on to the Soviet background.

Re: Self driving car kills pedestrian.

Yes uber have had a very poor attitude to this so it's not exactly surprising that the first fatality should involve one of their cars.

Re: Conwy driver jailed for head-on crash with cyclist

Well I'd like to see a longer ban. It's always struck me as a little funny that there's been a reasonably successful push to make driving while drunk socially unacceptable but driving while tired, which is just as dangerous, is seen as less of an issue. Of course, a big factor is enforceability. Onc...

Re: A place to record lenient sentencing for motorvehicle....

Society as a whole views inflicting harm through negligent/reckless behaviour while travelling less seriously. That's why death by careless/dangerous offenses exist in the first place as juries won't call a spade a spade (manslaughter in this case). Part of the problem is presumably linked to that a...

Re: May's ultimatum to Russia

May also gets to look tough generically expelling some diplomats which might help her polling and therefore increase chances of brexit (of a more brexity brexit) which Putin is of course in favour of.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

I'm rather suspicious of people claiming that anyone who is Eurosceptic cannot think for themselves and only exists on a diet of opinion or lies, whereas of course, those who are happy to continue to a federal Europe are insightful, intelligent and know the EU exists only for a wonderful utopian vi...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Why should clegg and cable etc do more to represent eurosceptic views? That does not fit with their views or party's stance, they are quite clearly pro EU. However, their constant campaigning for a fairer voting system would have equally allowed eurosceptic views and generally helped ensure that par...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

I sometimes suspect that most brexiters don't really comprehend the huge numbers of areas it impacts on. I expect that is true of Remain voters too. Perhaps the matter was a little complex to be settled by a referendum. Can't recall if I've posted this here before but always amusing: http://www.ind...
