Re: 4 days in holland - advice?

It's a plastic box styled to look like a modern device which you can mount to your bars. Inside you can stick a card with the route numbers written down. . Right I see. I guess a handwritten page inside the map holder on my bar bag will work as well then! Yes, but they are only £5 https://www.youtu...

Re: 4 days in holland - advice?

I tend to get a bit tired of my garmin, but not really sure of any alternative. I kinda just want to plan a basic route, noting the numbered junctions and follow that as best as I can. Is that asking for trouble? On the map the numbered junctions look easy to follow, in practice, is that true? The ...

Re: Review of Ridgeback Expedition 26" Bad News Update

That's certainly a good price david but i note that like the "improved" ridgeback expedition it has hydraulic brakes. It is also aluminium which would personally put me off. I see also that they describe it as a city bike. Congrats on your kona - i have always liked the look of some of th...

Re: Review of Ridgeback Expedition 26" Bad News Update

That looks like a great touring bike, I always go for flat bars on my Touring bikes and a fairly upright position. I think its not how much you spend on a bike its all about the adventures it takes you on. The more you spend on a bike the more of a target you are to thieves. I bought a Kona Dew Delu...

Did a spellchecker change 'veerboot' (ferry) to 'waterbed'?

Water, weight and Filters

Just planning my big tour of Holland and then the EV1 France, Water is very heavy 1 litre = 1Kg. I have seen some pump filters which are very light where you pump river water through a ceramic filter for about £25 and weigh 119 g. Has anyone had experience of these? Do you think its worthwhile? Runn...

How the dutch got their cycle paths!

Last year I toured Holland on a CTC trip for a week and I was astounded at the cycling facilities and dedicated cycle paths. It was one of the best cycling experiences I have had, no helmet needed and no fear of traffic passing too close. I am going back again this year but self guided on the Harwic...

Re: cycling in holland

I have just joined vrienden op de fiets, some of the addresses state 'there is no outlet in the bicycle storage' does this mean they cannot provide safe storage for your bike??
