Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

All the countries in the UK except England can talk freely about the rights of themselves as a nation state without being branded bigoted nationalists. The EU ticks most of the boxes of being an Empire. It conquests by economic proxy. The Scottish Nationalists in particular see membership or brexit...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

I can only assume the leaders of the Remain campaign for the 2016 people's vote were unacquainted with his oeuvre. The leader of the Remain campaign was the leader of the Conservative Party. I'm not sure whose side he was on. Indeed. I do agree with "andrec" that the remain campaign was v...

Re: Real Naked Cycling (i.e. no phone or GPS)

At the risk of erring again I believe I quoted the OP instead of merely replying. Aha, I see. You were first respondent. I thought you had maybe come up with some delightful and politically incorrect quote! Such as, "Here I sit upon my .... My map is torn It ain't much fun Lost within a sea of...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

we are just about to get a new prime minister who has no qualms about a no deal Brexit. It's incredible what some people will believe if it fits their narrative  It seems as if "andrec" would follow them (almost?) anywhere. But we are still waiting for a single example of bad UK law...

Re: Real Naked Cycling (i.e. no phone or GPS)

I always use paper maps and carry an ancient Nokia in my pocket. Never been lost. I am also a paper map person. There is something beautiful about them and the big overview of an evening looking at the next day's cycling is fascinating and often time well spent. I am terribly curious about your &qu...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Andrec.
I would point out that if we leave with no deal or some other restriction of freedom of movement, moving to another EU country will become impossible.

It's almost like you've reinvented Catch 22.

Re: British warships in Gulf to be renamed AA and RAC

I have a length of rope attached to vessel/vehicle in one hand, and a twenty pound note in the other, which I wave at passing traffic.  Would it not act as an anchor though  It is my discount price alternative to membership of a breakdown org. :D I confess to not having tried i...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Andrec. How dare you suggest that I am not a patriot. I am and I carry the scars to prove it. And you? I am a British citizen and an EU citizen. I wish to retain the right of abode In both those places. I have that right and you may not suggest that I leave the UK because of my political view. It sm...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

So you would ban Farage from TV? Think of the regimes where that sort of cleansing happens. Think where that goes. I would say put your finances and backers where they should be; in the open. Register your Party and then you get a platform. Otherwise TaTa from Question time on such a regular basis.

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Yes agreed BUT what we can say the pound is now trading at its lowest level since 1994, historically, the British Pound reached an all time high of 2.86 in December of 1957 and a record low of 1.05 in February of 1985 and since the referendum has fallen from its value 1.50 on the night of the refer...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

The Green Party at least have one MP and they don't get anything like the coverage of Ukip and Farage. Farage's message is so consistently negative. I do so wish he could paint a picture of his "sunlit uplands" in a bit more detail so we could all have a decent shot at offering critique. H...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

^^pwa. I have to say to me it did seem otherwise. There is more to coverage of any event than just it's content. It's called editing. It seemed to me the all important last word -.the one that sticks in the mind- seemed to be given far more to the Leave side. I found myself really dismayed very many...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

I'm willing to suggest that one factor in the rich voting to leave the EU, was the impending EU legislation aimed at curbing tax avoidance measures....something not appreciated by our wealthy brethren. After all, the fact that both Boris's Daddy and Lord Snooty's Daddy made their fortunes from crea...
