Re: Someone should invent...
Thanks for information. I am sure Park could cash in on a cheaper home mechanics' version. Back to cuts and bruises on weary hands!

Cut and paste the spec sheet for your specific model on to this thread. We'll then work out what replacement parts are compatible. This will save you loads of Googling as you take advantage of all the experience that's out there.

Re: Someone should invent...
Is there such a thing as a double-handled bottom bracket tool - similar in design to the one side of a BB reaming tool? I always feel you can't seat the BB removal tool firmly enough and properly level to effect maximum purchase. A long bar with the toothed engagement part in the centre would allow you to exert more pressure than is currently possible with a one-handed tool. Never seen anything like this but maybe forum fans will know differently.

This country's rather draconian libel laws.
I think the publisher (the Forum) can be held liable alongside the writer in a libel case.
Why should they take that risk, especially if not in a position of knowing at least both sides of the story yet.
How can you defame someone who is anonymous?

Re: decent full fingered gloves
At this time of year I wear EDZ merino wool gloves (£10) under fingerless mitts. You can wear either or both and adjust the set-up as the ride progresses and the autumn weather invariably changes.

Yes and no. Depends. I love a bargain. I love quality kit. My shopping mindset changes considerably within 24 hours - from the day before pay day and pay day itself.

Re: Which bike to buy now?
I would go for what they call "gravel" or "adventure" bikes now. You will get a bike that's a mix of road and off-road machine - but with the expected compromises. 32", 35" or 38" tyres aren't light but help traction on dirt trails. This is what I have and it does the job, well both jobs, admirably:

Re: Injured back and high pressure tyres
I know that skiing technique well. I once fell off my bike when trying out new clipless pedals. The bike keeled over and the saddle took a thump against the tar, snapping the top from the rails. I had to cycle six miles back to the car with no saddle - just a seat post pole sticking out the frame. I managed to pedal while hovering over the protruding post but now and again old habits caused me to try and sit down on the nonexistent saddle. I soon learned how to maintain the skiing stance!

katser123 wrote:Hey cyclist and ex smoker, I too have given up smoking after smoking for 25 yrs (I am very ashamed to say that). I decided against vaping and have just gone'cold turkey'. This is my 5 th week. Went cycling 4 times this week after not cycling regularly for long time. Yesterday, did 30 miles, mental hills, and was at the back of the pack the whole time (went with hubby and two girl friends). I, unlike you, felt totally demoralized and felt I was just a slow coach!!!!! I don't know if it's my technique, but I really, really, struggle on hills, gasping for breath!!!! The odd thing is, despite doing 100 miles this week, my legs don't ache but my neck and shoulders do!!! I think my technique is wrong somehow?
Take it easy...or easier. Don't do 30 miles if the distance is taxing you. Tackle fewer hills and more flat terrain if climbing is switching you off. I am helping an unfit, overweight neighbour return to cycling after a couple of years off the bike. The pace is painfully slow (6 mph) and there isn't much variety on our cyclepath training route. But she is improving and gaining in confidence. We simply add an extra mile each time we go out. That was the deal. The distance and the hills are maybe a year away but the big step for her was to get out and face the many other cyclists/runners/walkers she believes are fit and able. Give time time. You didn't become unfit and a heavy smoker overnight.

Re: A nice surprise in Cycle magazine
I joined CTC three months ago and have received two copies of the magazine in that time. As a long experienced cyclist and former journalist/editor on newspapers and magazines, I rate the publication very highly. The pagination is understandably limited but, with few ads, good use is made of space and the design is easy to follow. The mix of articles, features and pictures is a fair representation of the organisation, what it does and what it stands for.
I believe that 'Cycle' is a credit to the CTC. The members should feel proud to have such a professional publication complementing their activities. The editorial team also deserve a pat on the back. A very worthwhile element of the membership package.
