Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Why do you think its funny? The referendum was a serious question and as it turned out it had huge implications. Referendum questions should be simple and clear so that they can be easily understood by everyone, not just lawyers. In the event the question was misleading. If we give the government o...

Re: The next Labour Leader

With regard to the armed forces I just want a PM who, like Labour PMs of the past, is committed to working within NATO for the foreseeable future. These used to be mainstream Labour views, but not anymore. I don't think this is true at all. There's a Labour leadership contest at the moment and AFAI...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

You werent there, you dont know, lots of us were and we do know. There was nothing about any treaty it was just signing up to the Governments question.... "Do you think that the United Kingdom should stay in the European Community (the Common Market)?" Is that clear enough, the use of Com...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Factually Miss Widdicombes summation was spot on. But her assertion that betrayal caused the recent Brexit referendum result is speculative. I believe there were many more negatives to EU membership that added up to produce the Leave result. Younger people are probably unaware of the factors that e...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Hi, Well another MEP from UK has just spoken Widdecombe. I don't think any of you on either side wouldn't have applauded what she just said in the minute they gave her. She had a minute others are given 1.5 minutes. Basically she said that when the EU started it was six countries and the vision was...

Re: Should we celebrate leaving the EU

Just wondering what we should do to celebrate leaving or should we just put it behind us? What music would you play on the day? I'd choose a hymn used at times of great danger but can't name one. I think celebrating in these same way we celebrated losing in every football tournament over the last 5...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

"Brexit will soon have cost the UK more than its combined total of payments to the EU budget over the past 47 years. Bloomberg Economics found the cost of the UK's vote to leave has already reached £130 billion. A further £70 billion is likely to be added by the end of 2020, economist Dan Hans...

Re: Johnson Interview this morning.

He described Brexit as one of his “least favourite subjects, because we need to move on”.

*He* doesn't like it!

Words fail me.

The whole omnishmables was his idea.

If it's not his favourite subject, he should resign.

If you want this to be a general climate change thread, I would suggest leaving as-was; the Australian fires are only one manifestation of extreme events influenced by climate change. There are, and will continue to be, many others.

Re: ** the climate change thread **

The First Nations thrived for 40 000 years, scattered groups developed quite seperately, not so many people Then the whitepersons took over, introduced intensive livestock rearing, brought alien animals that killed native species (we know about that already) Indeed, but it's much, much worse than t...

Re: ** the climate change thread **

Today's news: cutting air passenger duty in an attempt to bail out the airline Flybe. A pretty short-sighted and retrograde step, if you ask me. Where have the disincentives to flying - the Flygskam as it's called in Sweden - gone to now? If domestic flying becomes scarcer and less affordable, ther...
