27 x 1/14 rim fitted to a free hub

I have fitted a 27 x 1/14 rim to a freehub with a 130mm spindle. The reason is to use a modern 7 speed cassette. However, the dishing on the drive side does look a bit lacking. Will it be stable, considering that the rim has little depth and is likely to be less rigid than a modern 700c? Has anyone done this before and did it work OK?

No logos, no fancy printing but seems to work, cheapest and quick.

Works fine so long as no-one else has had the same idea as you, on overlapping routes! :-)

I should have mentioned that the company I bought the plain Correx board from was theplasticshop.co.uk. It's actually their own-brand equivalent; they claim it's better than Correx though I can't say I've noticed a difference. They sell it in packs of 2440mm x 1220mm sheets in a variety of colours and will cut the sheets to order (cutting charge from 'free' upwards depending on number and complexity of cuts) so you could follow gxaustin's suggestion but have the triangles pre-cut for you. Best to phone them to discuss, as they can advise on the optimum sign size to get the most out of each sheet - the measurement is complicated by needing to allow a few mm of lost material for each cut.

Nothing to stop you using an indelible marker to personalise them

Re: Oats-so-pointless...?

Even more pointless: a plastic bottle with a bit of flower in it. You add milk, shake it up and hey presto: pancake batter :?

As to porridge, I use water and add dried fruit (no sugar/ golden syrup - yuk). Sometimes I add my chunky marmalade. This can be pepped up with ginger, cinnamon or chilli - or a mixture. Yummy

Re: Why calorie counts are so different

My Garmin suggests I've used between 50 - 70% more calories than my Strava App. Whatever, I don't eat enough extra food anywhere near even the lower estimate - and I haven't lost any weight. My guess is that it is all a bit dodgy, if not actual rubbish.

Black or Silver finish - which is better?

I'm about to buy some TRP disc calipers which are available in Black or Silver. Anybody know which is more durable? Or are they the same?

Interesting tirade Brucey. Makes me wonder how my unsealed Normandy hubs lasted 37 years
Srsly some good points though :|

Re: Best grease for hubs.

Why wouldn't any grease suitable for vehicle bearings be OK? I guess there is less heat in cycle bearings than a car, say, so high temperature greases would be overkill, but normal lithium grease should be OK shouldn't it? If the seals are sus then why not white grease since this is recommended for all weather use - like boat trailers which are likely to be submerged occasionally?

Re: Drivetrain longevity: wax or oil?

I've been experimenting with chain lube. Firstly I tried Hypoid Gear Oil. This was quite good. Then I had the idea of mixing Hypoid with wax. For the last 1,000 miles I've used a 50/50 hypoid oil/ wax mixture, applied hot. The chain has done about 2,000 miles with little wear. I expect to get the same again.
Are there any other lube experimenters?

I don't know whether cycling keeps you young but I feel the same now, when cycling, as I did 40 years ago.

Re: Bike Radar working?

I'm on chrome. If I try to view BikeRadar the page flashes up before disappearing for ever. This has been happening for several weeks now. I used to read many of their articles and reviews but now it's hopeless.
Any ideas?
