Re: Malaga to Granada

Only one way a cyclist should get to Granada from Malaga and that's via the Pico de Veleta (Sierra Nevada).

Mind you September is the only "safe" month to try this. The route could possibly blocked by snow at any other time

Re: Cycling on a fast dual carriageway.

It's the joining/leaving DC's that can be most risky. I would never try to use the slip road as drivers do and filter. I get to the mouth of the slip road then wait for a gap in traffic, dismount and walk across at right angles to get onto the main carriageway. I will sometimes do this at slip-roads...

Re: Cycling on a fast dual carriageway.

Personally I will use dual carriageways in certain circumstances, usually if the alternatives add too much mileage or are too lumpy. Coincidentally I'm currently planning a ride in Northumberland and for a section there is no viable alternative to using the A1. I try and keep well to the left, in th...

Re: Over exercise?

I'd rather drop dead of brain blott or some such whilst trying to catch the wheel of a cheeky passing-sprog going up a hill. :-) Cugel Indeed. The risks of under-exercising far outweigh the risks of over-exercising. Health professionals are by nature risk-averse and often not well versed in data re...

Re: "Hit and run" or attempted murder?

I'm left wondering what would have happened if the casualty had not secured the CCTV evidence himself and the clip had not been publicised eg on the BBC www. I think we all know the answer to that, sadly. This echoes my experience of the Met precisely. I was knocked off in a hit and run and they di...

"Hit and run" or attempted murder?

A shocking case of what is being described by the police as a "hit and run" (but looks to me more like attempted murder) captured on CCTV. This is especially disturbing for me as it's on a stretch of my routine training route. A telling piece from the article: The police are investigating ...

Re: B&M Ixon IQ Premium 80lux

The way in which the light wobbles even when correctly mounted is unsettling. After the escape which broke the closing latch I bought a second mount from B&M. The latching knob was certainly designed to be more prominent on the replacement, but the wobble wan't cured. After a bit of destructive...

Re: B&M Ixon IQ Premium 80lux

Thanks - apart from beam pattern close to the bike I am interested in your take on the closure mechanism. Also, if by chance you have any Smart Lunar lights, like this: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/smart-lunar-25-lux-front-light/rp-prod70361?gs=1&sku=sku268151&pgrid=60711842778&p...

Re: B&M Ixon IQ Premium 80lux

Thanks for the detailed review, gaz. This has prompted me to buy a couple of these (now under £23 on Amazon). I seem to remember the original IQ's were well over twice this price 10 years ago. I've been a long-time user of the original Ixon IQ and really liked them, but the Premiums seem to be brigh...

Similar to what I do at airport departure/arrival lounges. I also remove the rear mech and cable-tie it between the drop-outs.

Re: 2020 Audax LeJog

I think I prefer the Glencoe route, but I've only done it in September and maybe going up the A9 from Perth wasn't the best idea. The A9 section north of Perth is the probably most unpleasant bit of road in terms of traffic I've cycled on ever , let alone on LEJoG's. It's the dip below Dartmoor tha...

Re: 2020 Audax LeJog

I wonder if the night controls would be open early enough for a 4 day LEJOG. Been on my to do list since I did my 7 day one a handful of years back. The problem with a fast attempt on a fixed calendar event is that you have to contend with whatever weather you are handed. I'm still toying with a 4-...

Re: Why we need a Corybn Govt?

As a youngster I remember finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable places to rent following Labour's 1977 Rent Act. Private landlords simply got out of the market. As with any legislation, there are often unintended consequences.
