Re: Winter Air

DrukAir, the flag carrier of the kingdom of Bhutan, may be able to supply you with fabulously expensive Himalayan air, which will amaze and impress all your friends. It may even be pink, like Himalayan salt.

Re: Winter Air

I suspect that your Corbynista People's Republic is reluctantly working under financial constraints imposed by the Other Side. But let's keep this a (rare) politics-free zone?

Re: Winter Air

I'm a logical sort of chap ............ solstices and equinoxes .............but that doesn't really tell the whole story though I would like it to be as simple as that though I always maintain that midsummer is June21 and midwinter is Dec21. Apparently there's meteorological autumn, which is Septe...

Re: MTB toe clips - difference/advantages?

Noting that the discussion is interesting but SPDs are not for me because I have so far failed to find any footwear broad enough to fit my feet. I am happy with the toe clips on my Spa Wayfarer. This is enough to encourage me to fit toe clips to my old steel MTB. I can feel the difference and I thi...

Re: The Strange Case of the Vanishing Map

This phone gives you two options for formatting the SD card – either as 'portable', if you want the card to be readable in other devices, or otherwise as 'internal', in which case the phone treats all its memory as a single block, and doesn't give you options about where to put stuff. Clearly though...

Re: The Strange Case of the Vanishing Map

Well, that seems to have fixed it, fingers crossed - it's still there after ten days.

Re: Bordeaux to Chamonix...thoughts

Be careful ...when you ask it how far a town say Paris, is away ,it says say 50km...Then when you say you want to ride to Paris it says calculating route and comes up with 65km...wife didn't like this. Ah yes, when you ask it how far something is, it doesn't look at the roads, but gives you the as-...

Re: The Strange Case of the Vanishing Map

Thing is (is this a vagary of this particular phone?), it invites you to format the card as internal memory, and then treats all its memory as a single block, without giving you a choice of where to put stuff. Anyway, I've reformatted the card as portable memory, and reinstalled MapsMe, which is now...

Re: How dry are your stuff sacs?

All my life I've operated on a principle that has stood me in good stead: there's no such thing as waterproof luggage. Put everything in poly bags, when they puncture patch them with sellotape, when they get tatty chuck them away. I was rather dismayed to see that the heavy duty polythene rucsac li...

Re: The Strange Case of the Vanishing Map

AIUI (correct me if I'm wrong) the Moto E3 formats the SD card as internal memory, and then makes no distinction between the built-in memory and the card. There is an option to format the card as portable memory, but then – I think – you can't install apps to it, which leaves you a bit short of app-...

Re: The Strange Case of the Vanishing Map

Good idea. I've done a factory reset - made no difference. I'll try it with no other apps for a bit, see if that works, then reinstall apps one by one. The mystery deepens...

Re: The Strange Case of the Vanishing Map

OK, I found the spare SD card (bought from a reputable source, tested and found good), stuck it in the phone, reinstalled MapsMe, downloaded some maps. Thirty-six hours later, it's done a runner again. If I look in the file explorer, all the maps are still there, but no sign of the app. Anyone got a...

Re: Deore 510 9 speed chainrings on 8 speed FCM361 spider?

Yes it will work. There will be a slight (small) gap between the crank arm shoulder and the ring because 4 bolt 8 speed and 4 bolt 9 speed have the same bolt hole dimensions, BUT the cranks have slightly different shoulder dimensions, so you can't put an 8 speed ring on a 9 speed crank (I've tried ...
