Re: Jasmijn Muller - LEJOG record attempt- abandoned

Gutted for Jasmijn!!
Kept checking up on her progress throughout yesterday and was so disappointed when, this morning, I saw she had abandoned.
Get well soon Jasmijn.

Re: Heated Gloves

I suffer from Reynauds and posted in the following linked topic in January this year. I find Nifedipine helps me but not everyone wants to take medication

Re: Help needed!

Have you actually contacted the rail companies on the off chance that there is space for your bike? That's what I would try first. Good luck with it all!

Re: Never Appreciated I Was Such a "Slow" Cyclist

Yet article from CUK says an average cyclist rides between 15-20 mph! I've never managed a ride averaging even 15 mph. Maybe I should be "trying harder" and never appreciated I am "below average". I've just re-read the first post (part of which is above)and I now think it has be...

+1 for Gaz's reply.
I was just beaten to answering - I'd certainly ring the membership dept.
An email might take a little longer to be responded to.

Re: Saddle cream - can I cut the weight down?

I'm intrigued, why does anyone need a shower cap? If you need a shower then surely you'd wash your hair.
Or is it to be used as a saddle cover - for when you're not on your bike and it's raining?

Re: Orkney ferry, parking, outer islands, camping

If you are getting the early ferry from Stromness to Scrabster you can book an overnight stay on the ferry. http://www.northlinkferries.co.uk/offers/hamnavoe-bed-and-breakfast/ We did LEJOG last year and then spent a few days on Orkney coming back on the above route. We booked a premium cabin which,...

Re: Bike on train replacement

For our LEJOG last year we booked tickets (for us and bikes) to get us from Stockport to Newton Abbot and then Newton Abbot to Penzance. Arriving at Stockport station we were informed that there had been a bridge strike north of Bristol and bus replacements had been laid on to get round the problem....

Re: Actual cost of the ride

I see a link has been posted, which shows the total cost of our LEJOG in 2016. We certainly didn't skimp on cafe stops and evening meals. One tip I would like to add is regarding booking rooms in Travelodges. Once you have booked your room via 'central booking' then ring the 'actual' Travelodge to r...

Re: New to cycling and after clothing advice

I've seen a few b*ms through very worn out cycling shorts. I've told the occasional person too. It's only ever men! Are other men too polite to say or do they just comment behind their backs! I agree, it's not a pretty sight!

Re: YHA Lejog

When hubby did LEJOG almost 21 years ago, with his mate, they cycled up to Wanlockhead YHA from Carrock Fell in pouring rain. After knocking the, very unhelpful, warden came to the door and said "I'm having my tea, can you come back later". Needless to say hubby and mate turned round and l...

Re: NCN 81 Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury

Thanks for the info Whoof. I realise, now, it is route 818 for the section I have queried. Unfortunately coming through the Élan Valley takes us out of our way as we will be cycling from Oswestry that day. Another alternative, for us, is bearing west from Llanidloes on lanes, picking up the A44 as f...

Re: NCN 81 Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury

Can anyone tell me what the surface (and terrain) is like between Llangurig and Cwmystwyth? It's on the NCN 81 and leaves the A44, turning left, just west of Llangurig. From what I can see on my tablet it looks like it might be a forest track - is it suitable for a road bike with loaded panniers? Th...

Re: Extreme gloves/overshoes circulation issues...

I suffer with Raynaud's and the only way I can ride my bike in the colder months is by taking medication (from November until April!) I also wear two pairs of gloves, very thick socks (or two thinner pairs) and thick overshoes. It doesn't stop me getting cold hands and feet but it does help. I also m...

Re: Headband to cover ears under cycling CAP (NOT helmet nor that debate)

My ear warmer/head band came from Decathlon.
It fits nicely under my helmet so one should be ok with a cap.
They don't seem to do one the same as mine any more (which had no obvious branding) but they do have lots of choice.
