Re: Cycling UK (CTC Tours) LEJoGs 2017

Not sure whether you are jesting Psamathe - but it's £2140 per person and not for eight people!
Think it would be sold out in minutes if it was that price for a block booking.

Re: Iron on reflective tape.

Some years ago I purchased 'sew on' reflective tape and got a 'good seamstress friend' to stitch it onto my fleecy winter cycling jacket. It, and the jacket, are still going strong. I wouldn't risk having it sewn onto a waterproof top though. I can't remember where I got the tape from but if you jus...

Re: about the Tissington & Manifold Valley trails

Yes, the Monsal Trail is worth a visit but try and avoid weekends as it gets very busy.

Re: 4 or 5 day LEJOG

Congratulations mnichols on completing your ride.
It certainly sounded an ordeal on several fronts.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hubby and I completed our 17 day LEJOG at the end of May after well over a week of strong, cold, headwinds. However, your ride made ours seem easy!

Re: Who's setting off when

Thanks for your best wishes. We're hoping to average about 60 miles per day so it should be 17-18 days (our route is approx 1000 miles). None of our days has more than 3000 ft of climbing. We did 3800ft on our 61 mile club run last Sunday! Ok, it was without panniers but we both carry a packed carra...

Re: Who's setting off when

Well, after over 12 months of planning the date has finally arrived.
Train to Penzance first thing tomorrow, pedal to our b&b near Lands End, and set off on Sunday morning.
If our legs aren't up to it now, they never will be.

Re: Secure bike lockup near Paddington?

Do you have to go via London? I'm not from the south of the country so don't know where the railways run but I've just been doing a bit of searching and you could go, for example: Eastbourne to Portsmouth Harbour (change at Brighton). Portsmouth Harbour to Penzance (change at Salisbury and Exeter St...

Re: Who's setting off when

Thanks for the warning Bogmyrtle but if all goes to plan then we expect to go over to The Orkneys on 31st May or 1st June so should miss the Festival (and, hopefully, accommodation problems).

Re: Who's setting off when

We'll be getting the ferry from JOG over to The Orkneys and we're returning on the Stromness to Scrabster (Nr Thurso) ferry. We'll then be staying over in Thurso and getting the early train home (train tickets for us and bikes purchased well in advance!).

Re: Who's setting off when

Leaving Lands End on Sunday 15th May (with hubby). :D First night Wadebridge Travelodge. Next three nights booked then 'pot luck' after that. Fingers crossed we find places to stay. We're doing lots of research and heading for 'populated' areas for the end of each day. We're aiming at 17-18 days the...

Re: The Strawberry Line

Thanks for all the replies so far. I read your blog, yesterday, Fionat and found it very interesting - so had seen your photo on 'the line'. In fact, our planned route follows the same route as yours for several miles after. It's reassuring to know that the Strawberry Line is rideable - and, if nece...

The Strawberry Line

Does anyone know what the surface is like on The Strawberry Line (NCR 26) from just west of Cheddar to Yatton? We'll be on road bikes with panniers.

Thanks
