Re: Secure bike lockup near Paddington?

Do you have to go via London? I'm not from the south of the country so don't know where the railways run but I've just been doing a bit of searching and you could go, for example: Eastbourne to Portsmouth Harbour (change at Brighton). Portsmouth Harbour to Penzance (change at Salisbury and Exeter St...

Re: Who's setting off when

Thanks for the warning Bogmyrtle but if all goes to plan then we expect to go over to The Orkneys on 31st May or 1st June so should miss the Festival (and, hopefully, accommodation problems).

Re: Who's setting off when

We'll be getting the ferry from JOG over to The Orkneys and we're returning on the Stromness to Scrabster (Nr Thurso) ferry. We'll then be staying over in Thurso and getting the early train home (train tickets for us and bikes purchased well in advance!).

Re: Who's setting off when

Leaving Lands End on Sunday 15th May (with hubby). :D First night Wadebridge Travelodge. Next three nights booked then 'pot luck' after that. Fingers crossed we find places to stay. We're doing lots of research and heading for 'populated' areas for the end of each day. We're aiming at 17-18 days the...

Re: The Strawberry Line

Thanks for all the replies so far. I read your blog, yesterday, Fionat and found it very interesting - so had seen your photo on 'the line'. In fact, our planned route follows the same route as yours for several miles after. It's reassuring to know that the Strawberry Line is rideable - and, if nece...

The Strawberry Line

Does anyone know what the surface is like on The Strawberry Line (NCR 26) from just west of Cheddar to Yatton? We'll be on road bikes with panniers.

Thanks

Slimbridge to Gloucester - Severn Way

Does anyone know if the towpath from Slimbridge to Gloucester (NCR 41) is rideable on road bikes with panniers?

Thanks.

Re: LE to Bristol - Stick to Coast?

Thanks to everyone for all the hints and tips re the A39 in Cornwall.
I think we will use it for the stretch from St Columb Major to Wadebridge (as Mick has suggested).

Re: LE to Bristol - Stick to Coast?

Hi Mick F,
Do you know what the stretch of the A39 is like between St Columb Major and Wadebridge?
It will be a Sunday afternoon, mid May
Thanks,

Re: American wants to do LEJOG - equipment and accommodation

Just read LindaB's write up of their LEJOG and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hope mine and hubby's forthcoming trip is just as good (but without any 'mechanicals' or tumbles!).

Re: Inverness Station

Thanks again to everyone.
I had seen the station plan but needed some reassurance from 'someone in the know'.
I can relax a bit now as our first and last nights b&b's are also booked -we've just got to plan the route.
Hubby doesn't worry about things as much as me!

Re: Inverness Station

Thanks for your help. I know it's cutting it finer than I would like but the tickets have been bought as one journey from Thurso to Edinburgh. I assume that Scotrail 'allow' for time to change trains. I think I'll ask for assistance at the station and keep a close eye on the time. Hopefully we will ...

Re: Hit off bike

Are you in the CTC?
If so, I'd contact them first.
When my husband was knocked off his bike the CTC appointed a solicitor and it was sorted out by them (but it took two years).

Inverness Station

Can anyone tell me how far it is from platform 6 (where our Thurso to Inverness train comes in) to platform 4 (where our Inverness to Edinburgh train departs)? Will we need to get station assistance to help transfer our bikes and luggage between the two platforms as we only have about 10 mins to cha...
