Re: Name Change

Yes, I agree with that, when I first joined the CTC I was a touring cyclist, after a lapse I rejoined and am now more of a day tourer, utility cyclist etc. and the CTC had changed as well, representing all cyclists, basically the whole rebranding seems a bit of a shambles upsetting and confusing .

Re: Name Change

Yes, what I meant was that although called that CTC, my understanding is that Cyclists Touring Club was still the legal name, thus implying that it was a club exclusively for tourers, what I was trying to say was why can't the Cyclists Touring Club be replaced with CTC in the same way that British Aerospace became BAE Systems where the BAE is not an abbreviation anymore since they are involved in other areas such as ship building.

Re: Name Change

CTC has been a broad church for a long time now, it could simply have officially rebranded from "Cyclists Touring Club" to "CTC".
RS Components is a well known supplier of electrical and electronic components and tools etc. but many many years ago they started live as Radiospares, because that was all they did, so the name changed to reflect this, but it still retains it's history, likewise BAE Systems.

Yes, French Connection shirt is more acceptable than advertising ones self as a CUK, did notice on the web that there is a CUK clothing company !

Bring back the guards van. Ideal for cyclists and racing pigeons.

Perhaps CUK might get some inspiration from the absolutely fabulous new Olympic kit [emoji56]

On a positive note, shouldn't be bothered by wee beasties.

I use Tapatalk on my pad, different experience than on website but you get used to it, and you can have more than one forum on it at the same time.

Do you secure them to the bike while stopped? How? Thanks in advance.

No I never bother, there is a strap on the top which I attach to the rack, sort of belt and braces in case I've forgotten to close the fasteners, which I did once when I was at work and the pannier parted company after a large pothole. If you want to secure panniers a cafe lock would be ideal, it could be looped through panniers and rack, and also helmet.

I tend to wear a top as well when cycling.

Re: Panniers for weekend tours

I've used Carradry 2X10 litre panniers for years, and found them to be very tough and waterproof, seldom take them off the touring/utility bike now. Used to use one on my road bike till reverting to a saddle bag.

Do you actually like camping?

Food is always good when camping, perhaps because you appreciate it more. There's more likelihood of leftovers if you go to a restaurant , but if you've rustled up a one pan dish on a camping stove every last morsel is consumed and enjoyed. [emoji39]
