Re: A quick introduction before i flood you all with questio

If the shifters work I'd keep them, it's amazing what a smooth change you can achieve with friction levers with modern rear cassettes, just prior to doing an Audax ride a while ago the gear hanger on my ali. framed road bike broke and not getting a replacement in time I quickly stripped the bike down and put most of the groupset and wheels (9 speed) onto an old 7 speed steel framed bike I had, a bit of tweaking of the rear spacing and new cables and I was amazed at how good it felt on the road.

Re: Disability Benefits

The governments view that work is good for you is right, trouble is the gov. are out of touch with the real world, finding a job for a young healthy qualified person is not easy these days, public sector jobs are axed to save money and the gov. then thinks that those out of work should find work in the private sector........dream on. The gov. should create employment for all, giving people dignity and a purpose, there are lots of things that can be done, but aren't because they are deemed not cost effective. Most people have some ability which can be used to benifit the rest of the community, and give dignity to themeselves..........(going to stop my rant now, batteries nearly flat)........

Re: Any non-UK folks have trouble with left vs right in UK?

Just another thought, driving or cycling as a Brit in Europe soon seems second nature, like on roundabouts you're giving way to vehicles already on it, but in the UK mini roundabouts seem to be not very intuitive, especially when there's someone at each giveaway line waiting to see who moves first.

Re: Are Carradice saddlebags out of fashion?

I use a Carradice Junior bag, small, no side pockets, and all my gear I carry in a gym bag which is stashed in the saddle bag, so when I park-up I whip out the gym bag and off I go, nowt left on the bike, basic tools, tubes, pump, waterproofs etc. are always left in the gym bag, fashion is for sheep. Re: Any non-UK folks have trouble with left vs right in UK?

Once you're into the flow of traffic it's O.K., but driving/cycling out of a driveway is strange, as is walking across the road, the last thing most Brits do when stepping off the kerb is look to the right.

Re: Lyrca not welcome in N Zealand?

Many a year ago in Oz, I was refused service in a bar because I was wearing flip-flops, and therefore showing bare feet, my mate who was wearing shoes gave me his white socks which I then put on (not easy with flip-flops), and the staff then made me very welcome .

Hope some clever person does know how, I've got all the road grime and tyre marks out of mine and it looks like new apart from the oil stain on one sleeve.

Re: More than one chainset for a bike?

I have a perfectly good compact chain set which would be more than adequate 90% of the time, but after fitting a road triple for a particularly long lumpy ride I never felt the need to remove it, it covers all eventualities for a slight increase in weight.
