There is a problem that people, the press included, confuse "going out" with "going out and meeting people".
i suspect that the authorities are concerned about wasting police resources trying to be heavy handed about enforcing rules which many people don't think make sense.
There is a problem that some people think crowding in queues for toilet rolls, coronavirus tests or almost anything else is going to benefit themselves!

Most turns anywhere are 90 degree. The real problems are the curve radius and the sight lines for the people approaching the junction. I expect the infrastructure was designed for a maximum speed of 4 mph (i.e. pedestrians).
Current UK standards are a minimum horizontal radius of 14 metres at 12 mph. See http://www.standardsforhighways.co.uk/h ... ic-web.pdf
the cycleway infra is utterly pants! It doesn't link up across the town, not even close, it zig zags its way unlike the motor roads which are flat and direct, and when it does meet a road (as you've found) it ducks under the road at an often significant gradient with the accompanying 90 degree turn (sometimes more acute)

Re: Paul Tuohy vidio
Council is not the right place to discuss whether or not the CTC should mount a campaign to change the law on passing distances. That's micro-management.
First of all, the matter should be taken up with the department responsible for lobbying the UK government. Ie Roger Greffen. If you feel the response you get there is not good enough, you should propose the idea to the network of volunteers responsible for lobbying local government (Right to Ride network). If you get no real interest there either - that's life. There are so many cycling issues to lobby/campaign about.
