Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

Just apropos of, we've just been on a nice family walk where I know the landowner quite well. We got talking and she told me that a lady who was walking the route this morning had told he she was +ve for C19. Now I don't have an issue with her being out and about, but I do have an issue with her no...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

11,000 from a virus is hardly worth worrying about really. You're callous aren't you? But factually accurate, more deaths from seasonal pneumonia over the same period Last week alone in just England the government reckoned on almost 8500 flu cases, and based on what we know, at least 623 influenza ...

Watch and learn
Facts and graphs can show anything you like with an agenda and poeple within the medical world who don't grasp how stats are compiled.

Re: Daughter wants a new bike

Those Mavic hubs were either 501, 531 or 571 but deffo you would have got more parting, they were very nice and I still have an earlier 500 on a mavic ceramic front that will eventually replace one of my other wheels when I get through it. It sounds like a really lovely bike and a bit gutting to see...

Re: Some groups did not read the memo!

Judging by this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0877mb2 it's time all cyclists got off the road. Last place you want to be right now is in hospital, and even less so in an ICU. It's time personal motoring was banned, this is the direct cause of tens of thousands of people being put in hospital ...

Re: Argos (Racing Cycle) custom build XXL = BIG !

I bought a Dawes Londoner some years ago, she was a 64cm and I managed to ride it at 5ft 11 and 32.5" IL with not much of the seatpost sticking out, I comfortably ride a 62cm Raleigh Titanium regularly, so you might be surprised as to what heights this might be feasible for despite received wis...

Re: Some groups did not read the memo!

Those who like to knock CTC/CUK never seem to pass up an opportunity to do so, but there is nothing in the OP to suggest these groups had anything to do with the CTC. My local CTC group (very much still CTC and doing what it’s done for nearly 100 years) cancelled the entire five rides a week progra...

Re: Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) - just how serious?

It's interesting that Lombardy (which includes Bergamo) has a particular combination of mountains, industry and cold air which traps pollution, the worst almost in Europe. So while the UK might be just as bad at producing it, our weather blows it away - Lombardy's smog just gets trapped. I don't wa...

Re: Daughter wants a new bike

I did this with a Raleigh Royal Lady some years back for a tall lady that was originally 6x2, Ultegra bar end shifters 12-27 9 speed and 50-34, the wheels Alexrims on I think some hubs that specialized were using as OEM worked perfectly fine. You can buy a 33T ring to lower the gearing another 3% o...

Re: Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?

Congestion charge has been lifted by the anti cycling mayor, hardly surprising that London roads might be busier at times. The Mayor thinks the reverse will happen! All road charging schemes in London are to be suspended to help critical workers move around the capital during the coronavirus crisis...

Re: Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?

.. Much less traffic. More speeding. Some very inattentive driving. .. -1, more motor crime We know such changes well enough Could the roads be narrowed to slow the terrorists? Maybe they are already narrowed by millions of unused parked vehicles? in Bogata they have actually closed some of the mot...

Re: Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?

It was light traffic here most of yesterday, but then heavier than usual in the evening. I suspect the reports of Londoners heading for second homes on the coast now that schools have closed are true. Lynn had its first two C19 deaths confirmed yesterday. They won't be the last. Congestion charge h...

Re: Anyone found the roads less busy and/or motorists driving better?

Surely now wherever any reunion was to be held it will no longer happen. As regards to traffic certainly in parts of Surrey yesterday traffic was almost very light to non existent and past 1800hrs I only saw mainly key workers/delivery vehicle son the road. This morning early little road traffic, s...
