Re: Winter bikes

Summer bike is a minimalistic single-speed steel mtb with silcker tyres, no water bottle cages, or mudguards, etc Winter bike is my usual mud-plugger - a 3x10 alloy mtb with more aggressive tyres - but with mudguards, lights, saddle bag, bottle cages etc However - after changing to studded tyres - t...

Re: Shoes help !

Re: Where do I start...

Many of the cycle routes around me, incorporate pavements - and even on the ones that are clearly signposted - I still get such responses

Re: Newbie looking to commute to work

Just to add to that Try doing the journey on a non-work day first - just to get some idea of the amount of time you need to allow and if it's really for you. Then, generously add to that time, to account for traffic, punctures, as well as retired brain surgeons and rocket scientists - whose hobby is...

Of course, if they had bells on their bikes, none of that would ever have happened

Re: Convert standard QR wheels to 12mm Thru Axle

You can convert to thru-axle hubs to QR (and vica versa) BUT ONLY if the hubs are convertible to start with - hubs such as Hope evo/pro hubs for example.

You CANNOT convert QR forks to thru-axle

Re: Tyre choice

Panaracer Fire XC pro

I nave been using these on my commute (with very similar surfaces as you describe) for a number of years with no problems.

Run them at 65 max on road and (if you fancy a bit of XC on the weekends) 35psi off road

Re: Pictures of your bike(s)

It's a large as far as I can make out. However, thinking about it I don't reckon it'll take your fork as it had a 80-100mm fork on it. Yeah, a large may be too much - although those forks on my GT are Tora 318 U-turns which can be set between 85 and 130. Most of the time they are set at 100mm anyway

Re: Pictures of your bike(s)

Cheers :D The GT is on it's way out next year. The threads have finally gone on it - and I doubt the last BB I installed (with great difficulty) is going to come back out. Still, I can't complain - I only paid £20 for the frame  Trouble is - I now have to source a frame to match the rather expe...
