Re: Travelling through customs with bike bits

It was an EU Germany to UK visit. I'm just stocking up before the tariffs arrive. I've been living here nearly 4 months now. Plus the fact that in euros everything Shimano is about 25% cheaper than to buy I'm Germany than the UK. It's a win win, for the time being...

Re: Suggested route for West Highland tour Spring2017

I'll probably be able to get 18 days straight next spring. Are there any special deals on tickets?

Re: What constitutes a beautiful bike?

I think components matched to paint scheme (eg silver parts look great with certain colours, and black/grey parts with carbon ect), also bar tape and saddle colour match is very pleasing to me. Some people go as far as the tyres and brake cables! For sure aesthetics is practiced by everyone, whether...

Re: Square Taper

A lot of the workload of my previous LBS is extracting stuck ST brackets. Of course copper greasing is a great idea, but nobody DOES it! I can't think the number of factory built bikes I've seen with either no, or very little grease in the BB. The owner of the shop is known to swear (in French and S...

http://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_vibe_p1-7539.php Removeable battery? Is this correct? What is involved in swapping a battery? https://youtu.be/4HLffrcNeZw Al Ha! No you're right, I was looking at the blurb on the S1 model. Still, with 5000mah to play with I'd likely only be charging it twice, maybe ...

Re: Celebrity deaths 2016

It will continue to rise because there will be an ever increasing number of people who qualify as "celebrities". That is due to an increase in world population, an increase in our global outlook and a deflation of what qualifies you to be a celebrity. +1. They'll soon be rolling out exten...

Re: Square Taper

I know that there is the claim that the hollow BB axles are stiffer and therefore more responsive that the solid square taper axles, and that the closer outboard bearings are to the crank also makes the ensemble stiffer and more responsive - and that these have benefits for the racing fraternity, b...

Re: Wilko's adhesives etc

Also good for brake cables. A good quality inner rear and full length outer for £1.89. I thought it was on $$S at first, serious bargains! Careful with the cables, some I've bought in the past have been SS inner and I picked one up a few weeks ago and it's galvanized. I wouldn't have bought it if I...

Re: Travelling through customs with bike bits

I guess with the weakened pound, bringing back kit from holiday is going to seem near on irresistible. Coming back from Germany last month I was all ready for a grilling with my rucksack full of Ultegra (saving about 26% over UK prices) to find the EU customs desk unmanned! And this at ten am in the...

Liked: mini, half shoe slip on overshoes. Neoprene, warm and slip off in a jiffy.

Dislikes: Newcastle Brown Ale. It's hard work!

The ride through the islands, coming from a sea faring family myself, does sound very appealing. Wouldn't the ferry be expensive though, do bikes go free?

Re: Good phone for GPS with long battery

After looking around the internet, I've finally settled on the Lenovo Vibe P1, with a removable 5000mah battery. So no more carrying around power bricks! Video playback tests rate it at 20.5hrs continuous screen on between charges. This should equate to at least 18hrs with GPS. That's two days to me...
