Re: Good phone for GPS with long battery

Have been out a few local rides and notice everyone desperate to get to a charge point for their Garmin...? Most Garmins will last a days ride if you have them on settings where the battery life is taken into account, Maybe the smaller, mono screen versions but the big colour slabs these guys use s...

Re: Extreme Surveillance Becomes UK law

I can't understand why you guys aren't taking to the streets over this legislation. There's simply no need, nor value to bulk data collection of this nature, and retention for long periods. Terrorist attacks are simply not prevented this way. They are prevented by very targeted surveillance with lot...

Re: Bike accessory charger

I used a cheap solar USB charging solution when touring Czeck Republic a few years ago. I bought a small panel 8x6 inches and mounted it on a bar bag (on top) enough juice to charge an iPod and mobile phone simultaneously. Though it did take longer than normal (about 7hrs to charge both) because the...

Re: Good phone for GPS with long battery

Have been out a few local rides and notice everyone desperate to get to a charge point for their Garmin/similar, or carrying around a hefty back up battery. There has to be a better way? Local rides? People should know the roads so have no need for GPS guidance. Using a hub dynamo with a front lamp...

Re: Good phone for GPS with long battery

It's really got to double up as a phone for me as I'm not keen on taking (or buying) two devices! I'm looking for a phone with a decent battery life and at least an 6hr screen on before death!

Suggested route for West Highland tour Spring2017

Interested in a lengthy 5-600 mile tour of this part of the country. My 'local' touring area is the East Coast of Canada and the St Lawrence river. Very hilly, with long, arduous climbs but stunning views as a reward. I'll be mostly youth hostel and b + b.

Any ideas?

Re: What should we have in our bunkhouse

Oh and early/late checking in time too. No one likes hanging about in the rain till 5pm!

It's suggest check in from 3pm till 10.30pm, which gives everyone a chance, especially tourists coming from long distance or off international flights.

Re: What should we have in our bunkhouse

+1 on sockets for USB. Perhaps a USB charging rack. I stayed in a bunkhouse in Yorkshire last month, with NO sockets at all other than in the kitchen! Free Wi-Fi is good, but it can be a curse especially if trying to 'get away from it all'. A paid for Wi-Fi would bring you in some extra cash, and ea...

Also good for brake cables. A good quality inner rear and full length outer for £1.89. I thought it was on $$S at first, serious bargains!

Re: One of those days! Tired! Tired! Tired!

I take my resting pulse every morning just after I get up. It's normally 50-55bpm. If I'm coming down with something (even three or four days before it manifests itself with symptoms) it rises to 72-78bpm. It's been a totally accurate, and useful predictor these past 20 years! You have to remember t...

+1 for Decathlon. All the staff In my local store are actually French, and have a very good knowledge of bikes and parts/maintenance. They have some really great deals at the moment and a little bird tells very good close out deals in their January sales.

From what I've seen, a northern European diet is mostly fried food, booze and takeaways. I am living in a northern powerhouse city right enough

I've actually tried one on for size and I too can confirm that it's uncomfortably heavy.
