So should we agree many trucks are only able to see about 60% of the road?

Re: In for a penny - trike vs velomobile

Velomobiles work well on good cycle infrastructure. For commuting they provide weather protection. They are also good on rolling hills. For long distance journeys they can be good because of their higher speed. Set against that trikes are much easier to transport and to service. The choice very much...

Re: Friendly Cambridge bike path turns into pole-wielding monster

Hopefully the below shows how a proper job is done. It is in NL naturally: EGhC54aXkAMPAz6.jpg Vulnerable users (e.g. children) are protected from straying onto the nearby road. The hedge can be used as an area to mount traffic poles if required. There is a central dotted line to help users maintain...

Re: Friendly Cambridge bike path turns into pole-wielding monster

The victim blamers on here seem to be deploying the safe drunk diver argument. The safe drunk driver argument goes like this: 99% of drunk drivers get home safely - so drunk driving must be OK! The answer to this is NO. Drunk cycle path designs may be navigated safely by 99% of the cyclists, but it ...

Not to mention the +1M£ civil law case for the distressed motorist to get compensation after having their indicator light knocked out.

Re: Friendly Cambridge bike path turns into pole-wielding monster

If not already done let the Police know of this crash via 101. Report it as: Total vehicles involved: 1 Casualty vehicle: pedal cycle Cause of crash: erroneously sited street furniture (a pole without reflectors) on cycle path. The reason for this is that this then eventually appears on Crashmap via...

Re: Friendly Cambridge bike path turns into pole-wielding monster

"Good safety practice keeps upright hard objects well away and set back from the greenway" Cambridgeshire CC cycle officers in possession of the above common sense advice for about 2 years. "The use of hedges to confine a young user from accidentally straying from a Greenway onto a ro...

Re: Friendly Cambridge bike path turns into pole-wielding monster

This pole was installed on a brand new cycle/walk way. The pole has nothing to do with cycling it has various instructions for the neighbouring busway.

Re: Friendly Cambridge bike path turns into pole-wielding monster

Complete sympathies about this crash. IMHO Cambridgeshire CC or the relevant authority is negligent - no questions. I was so appalled at Cranebridgeshire CC having no cycle design standards (Oxfordshire CC does) that I decided to write my own standard to try to goad them into producing a cycle desig...

Uber car - software problem

The Uber car that killed a cyclist/pedestrian as she crossed the road had a 'software problem'. The 'software problem' was that it failed to recognise the woman crossing the road because it failed to recognise her as a pedestrian. The software was only programmed to recognise pedestrians at pedestri...

Re: Cycle Warning Triangle Roadsign

Cycle warning signs absolve councils from all responsibility for accidents where the cycle path designs are poor. Just by magic a sign negates all the danger away. Once a cycle warning sign is placed there then there is never ever ever ever a cycle accident at that spot ever.

Re: Advice on a hit and run accident.

Very sorry to hear of this hit and run. The answer is default liability for vulnerable road users as they already have on the continent. It is time to demand that the insurer of the motor-vehicle can be identified. We can already find out the status of vehicle excise, and MOT using the number plate....
