Im pretty much bored with all of the cycling mags now. I have read so many over the decades. It is a pretty tough job to catch my interest.
I stopped buying Cycling Plus when I realised that it just made me discontented with my lot.
Even that little gem AtoB Magazine fails to get the wall-to-wall read that I used to give it.
"Cycle" is OK. At least I find out what is going on . . .. nobody tells me anything.

It's disappointing to see not much has changed.
I'm sorry that you feel like that. Taking the broader view I do believe that CTC is changing and evolving both at a staff & membership level.
Technology-wise - beginning to embrace the internet and all its possibilities.
Developing, promoting & protecting cycling - through the new National Standard Cycling Training scheme, Campaigning and other activities
There are two new officers : Off-road campaigning & Off-road activities.
etc.
I wear lycra, Gore-tex Windstopper & Goretex. . . . ride road & MTB . . shimano & shimergo. . . .er, like all the other staff & members that I know.
There is a whole mix of people. Are they not represented on this forum ??

That is how it works . .
Having pressed the SUBMIT button the new PM will appear in the OUTBOX.
Once the receiver has opened it, you will then see it in the SENTBOX.
This seems to be way it shows you if the message has been read by the recipient.
I had to run a test to work it out. But the manual says :

4.3.3: The Outbox
When you send a PM, the message goes to your Outbox. It remains in the Outbox until the recipient visits his/her Inbox, at which point it is moved from your Outbox to their Inbox. While the message remains in your Outbox you may edit or delete your post if you like. The message remains in your control until it is received.

I'm no expert and I don't own an electric bike, but I do subscribe to AtoB magazine.
They regard the Giant Lafree & eZee Torq as their most favoured bikes. But beware, it is a fast moving market and new models are introduced all the time.
PS. Your avatar . . . any chance you could put a shirt on ? I makes me feel quite queasy

Welcome Cyclic,
Here is a good source of information about electric bikes . .

An electricallly assisted bike can provide a useful additional transport alternative.

Re: Message Board Moderation
ThomasDylan wrote:Moderators; what would you recommend for us to adhere to? What are the main reasons for censorship? Anything else to add?
My apologies that posting guidelines have been slow in coming. The delay is partially to get a feel for what is required - hopefully as little as possible. Common sense and courtesy are the order of the day. The rules in the Registration form are the hard backstop.
Hopefully the following (draft) guidelines will help . . . . .
===================================================================================================
Aim
The CTC message boards are intended to provide an online meeting place for the cycling community - open to members and non-members alike (currently) . We hope that the boards develop and maintain a reputation for friendliness, inclusiveness, helpfulness & knowledge.
General Guidelines
Please be aware, it is notoriously easy to cause offence on message boards by, for instance, a poor choice of words or providing inadequate context. Thus we would urge practising diplomacy in your posts wherever controversy emerges. This isn't to say you cannot have frank exchange of views with those you know to be robust posters. However, avoid personal attacks - stick to the subject of the debate.
If you think things are getting out of hand or are subject to personal attack - do NOT respond - contact a moderator.
Commercial
Postings of a commercial nature will be removed without warning, unless previously approved for posting by CTC.
The Cycle Training board
The "National Standard Cycle Training" board is provided as one of the requirements of government support and funding in that area. It is meant for discussions between those involved in professional cycle training and for public questions to those professionals. Inappropriate material on that board will be removed without warning.
===================================================================================================
A quick note on censorship in the Ladies magazine topic :
- At no time were any of the posts removed from public view.
The topic was locked for as short a time as possible, while I sought the views of three other moderators.
The consultation undertaken : the decision made : the topic split : the lock removed.
Those involved were kept informed by Private Messages.
I certainly did not wish to cause as much offence as I appear to have done.

Thanks Mick F. Fascinating.
Let us take Ben Law as an example - prior to his TV exposure and subsequent books he was only really known within the small, genuinely sustainable living community. His economic means as a woodsman were very modest. However, he would proclaim his life as extraordinarily rich in terms of quality of life. I would certainly agree.
I think most cyclists have enhanced their quality of life in some similar way. It is a happy coincidence that their equipment costs relatively little.
Opps sorry. I'm going off on one now.

Interesting post MickF.
I am greatly envious of your ownership of woodland. It must be a source of great pleasure.
I have been regularly looking on various websites with an intention to purchase.
This all started when Ben Law came into the public eye ( Grand Designs ) and led further to a sort of undiscovered parrallel universe of woodland stewardship and sustainable living.
Mrs T.
It is incidents like that which make me really despair. That which is truely precious counts for little or nothing these days.

Hi George,
Alas, I cannot move individual posts in the required way.
If you post a reply on the Intros topic, then paste the contents of this one into the new post then that should do it.
Report back here when fixed & I will delete this topic.
Cheers

Hi Penfold,
Welcome to the board .
Just my perspective : everyones' is different.
Cycling in a gym is a chore - the only thing you achieve is fitness - which is good in itself but . . . . How about achieving the fitness AND some other functional achievement. i.e. Real-world transportation - to work, shopping, or just getting out of the house into the countryside. This is synergy in action. PLUS you don't have to pay for the gym ( OTOH a bit of upper-body exercise is especially beneficial to us cyclists ). PLUS it is sustainable living par--exellence. PLUS the sense of independence gained . . . . . . .

Just to confuse matters further, I have evolved towards a multilayer approach. One major factor being the alarmingly hot night-time temperatures of recent summers. So I use :-
- 3-seasons down-filled sleeping bag
sheet sleeping bag - of very light, high-quality cotton
pertex sleeping bag cover
