Fair point. I would certainly like to feel rewarded for my sustainable form of transport. The reality is that I feel marginalised & placed in real danger. This is an issue with very widespread ramifications.

Where do you suggest I leave it for the next three weeks? There are only 2 of us. If you think £550 is cheap, please sling me a few fivers and then you then check out Speedferries.com. Just try putting that my requirements in the website and you will see what I mean.

Dave Baxandall contributes this ( by email ) . . .
I was in this situation myself last summer, on the Portsmouth - St Malo overnight ferry. The solution was to buy 2 tickets, one for 1 person, 1 bike and 1 twin cabin, the other for 1 person, 1 bike and 1 reclining lounge chair. Needless to say, you don't actually use the lounge chair - you both occupy the cabin. The cost as I recall is exactly the same as it would be if the system allowed you to book everything you wanted on a single ticket, as the cost of the unwanted lounge chair (£10) is exactly cancelled by the bonus of the second online booking discount.

Can this be put at the top of every page too? Maybe to the right of the current breadcrumb?

It would be rather useful, but it would need a software modification. I wonder why it was not located at the top in the first place . . . possibly because popular use would increase server load substantially. Anyway, it is something to think about.

For what it is worth I have been noticing useful facilities too. On the top-right of a topic there are three links, of which

Re: Board navigation

ThomasDylan wrote:I may be missing a trick here, but when I am on a section, e.g. Forum Help, do I have to return back to the main forum board every time I want to move onto a new section? If so, why? It seems to create at least an extra, annoying click.

Would it be possible (if it isn't already and I'm missing something!) to have the sections of the board as links at the top of every section? It would save a lot of toing & froing...

A minor gripe about a vastly superior system :-)

You don't :)
Just up above the posts is something called a breadcrumb ( silly name :? )
This has the link structure like the board hierarchy
e.g. CTC Forum / Forum Help / Board Navigation
You can click on the element you want to jump to . . .
e.g. to get back to the list of posts in Forum Help, you click on Forum Help
You may also use the browser arrow to Go Back. However, this will not show the "read it" flag thingies as updated until you move forward again.
You can use the Previous Topic & Next Topic links when you are reading posts within a topic.
It's not perfect, but it's not bad.

[lovee mode]
sorry to do a lovee session on you, but a big thank you must go to Anthony Cartmell @ Fonant upon whose server this forum runs. He played a major part in setting up this forum and will be keeping it running like a good 'un . . . . . and he writes a cracking post.

Overall, it was a team effort, councillers, management, p.b.i., posters . . . the lot.

Please don't post just to bait others.
Let us just forget what has gone before and move on.
As there is nothing useful in these post, I regret I will lock this thread and subsequently remove it.

Sorry guys

:P . . .oh, so true. And my unfortunate perception is that the roads appear to be breaking up faster than ever before. Possibly related to the ever increasing volume of traffic and the increasing axle weights.
I have had some success with Surrey County Council using their online reporting system. In the end it was sheer persistence ( and some pleading . . . )

I'll second that. It is really quite terrifying to think that I rode around for years with the Weinmann centrepulls. Utterly useless by modern standards. They got junked when I converted the 27" wheeled Galaxy to 700c and replaced the brakes with dual-pivot, long-reach Alhongas.

Thanks for your concern. Maybe I should not have gone into the forest to investigate the intense, pulsing, bright light. I can't remember what happened after that. Then I woke up this morning.

Recently, I have shimergo'd a Campag 9 to Shimano 8. Good result - nice strong wheel for Audax & touring.

Don't worry folks this message board software has good security & administrative facilities ( unlike the previous board ). . . . and moderators will be keeping a regular watch.
Anyone is welcome on this board as long as their posts are positive : useful, informative, entertaining, etc.

I don't want to make the proposed split at this time because of the length of the list of boards is quite long enough. There is a balance to be struck.
Use of the prefixes " For Sale : Wanted : Swap " in the message headers might be a sufficient clue if it can be encouraged.
