Re: World Bicycle Day

It was World Naked Gardening Day a month or so ago ................................ but it was way too chilly. Better the last week or two, and I cut the grass yesterday wearing nothing more than sandals! :D :D http://www.wngd.org I declare today "GN-z11 Day". GN-z11 is an obscure astrono...

Re: Do you love your job?

If there is one thing I hate and love it is work I was unemployed for a while, it was awful, did not know what to do with myself One reads about people who love their work and believe in it. I was lucky, had several jobs I could identify with, in a cycle shop, selling books, on a steam railway.. An...

What might be the effects of the rapidly increasing motor vehicle fuel costs?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44361016 but people will still continue to drive around seemingly doing **** all. Most likely just looking for somewhere else to park. You'd think that with increasing costs, people would be put off driving. But it seems the roads are getting busier all the time. ...

Re: The String Test for are you too fat?

Simplest test to do is to look at yourself in the mirror, or a photo. Ask yourself "do you have a big belly"? If yes then you're fat.

Re: So Why Do They Do It??

I always ride alone. I did ride in a group once and it seemed decent enough. But I tend to do most things alone partly due to weird shifts, but mostly its because I'm a back passage :!: . Doing things how and when I feel like is also very convenient.

Re: Shared use Path: Overtaking into head on traffic

OP was in the wrong IMHO. Keep left, overtake obstructions only when safe to do so and stopping is a good policy if in doubt. All mentioned above. The only addition I have is that the pedestrian read walking towards the OP which means they were facing the OP. That meant they would have seen the cyc...

Re: Empty roads?

Our walk down to the cliffs overlooking the Bristol Channel was great. The coastal path, if anything, was quieter than I would have expected on a sunny weekend. Normally I would have expected to say hello to one or two groups but today, on the clifftop path itself, we saw nobody. We reclined in som...

Re: Looked but didn't see

Are electric cars that quiet? I live on a 30mph main thoroughfare and can't distinguish what powers most vehicles. It has seemed to me for decades now that, for vehicles travelling at a constant speed, the greater proportion of noise is created by tyres. As a cyclist, din from passing traffic can b...

Re: Are we riding too fast.

It was also a location where the speed limit used to be 40. Strengthens my belief that speed limits are [rude word removed]. How is it safe to drive 40mph one day, and dangerous to the point of being fined on another day. Dont answer that question its purely rhetorical. If you don't want an ...

Re: Lifting front wheel.

Also riding in a very low gear will tend to lift the front wheel. Lean forward and pedal smoothly the hardest gear you can manage. In a harder gear you will have to push the pedals harder, so there will ultimately be the same amount of torque in the rear wheel. Shifting your weight forward and bein...

Re: Good budget bike locks?

The cheapest Sold Secure Gold lock I know of is the OnGuard Brute, which is £25.99 from Tredz (on-line, so you might need some help from mum) It doesn't come with an extender, but an extender is really just a cable with loops to go onto the D lock. It's more secure to use a separate lock, though th...

Re: Speed monitors

Its fine if you wanna go slow, just please dont try and get everyone else to go slow too. I will return the favour by not killing or mangling anyone when I go a bit fast. In fact some of the people who like riding or driving slow also believe its a ridiculous idea to ship a load of polar bears to th...
