Re: Meeting the Highwaymen - Hints and Tips

What are pseudo-motorway junctions?
What are NMU routes?NMU?
What is IAN195/16?

Kind of struggling to understand what you're actually saying.

Re: Are we riding too fast.

You are right, this is very familiar, motors have been going too fast for years, now cyclists can do the same. We know all about motor crime and danger. You think speed is a minor issue? You really believe in 'education'? Diversity of opinion is good, you have strange opinions about some laws mind ...

Re: Are we riding too fast.

I read somewhere at some time that 16 mph was the suggested max for shared/dual use facilities. I think this is fair and to go any faster around people on foot is unfair on them. If speeds in excess of this are desired, then the road is your place. In urban situations I think Darwinism would prevai...

Re: Why are fast bicycles worse than fast cars?

This question in my mind has been triggered by the current thread on Richmond Park but also by numerous other mentions of this phenomenon. Daily Mail-type criticism of cycling often points to cyclists travelling much more slowly than cars but somehow less acceptably. Why is this? Are you comparing ...

Re: Excuses excuses

We can slow down the motons starting now Anytime one passes a light-controlled foot crossing one should press the button even if one does not want to cross After using a crossing wait a moment and press the button again so the next PEOPLE will no have to wait so long I do this all the time, if many...

Re: Excuses excuses

20mph is for car parks! 20mph is a decent speed on a bike, but its insane in a car. Why is it insane? It's easy to drive at that speed. It's quiet and peaceful, and better for everyone. If I had the choice, I'd have 15mph zones in places too. Car parks are more like 5 or 10mph.https://www.google.co...

Re: Road Rage

This is why it's not worth getting into a confrontation with a driver. You never know who you're dealing with..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-43718055/driver-slams-into-motorcyclist-in-suspected-road-rage-scuffle Ouch. Take care out there. A man has been arrested, with it claimed ...

I also missed the bit about the red light driving. She should have her licensed trashed, not for petty speeding but for being a muppet.

Re: Excuses excuses

I hate the womans excuses, but I agree with her cause. Its her "everyone else does it" thing that pisses me off. Thats irrelevant. When you go fishing do you catch ALL the fish in the sea? You just got seriously unlucky, but as a driver, speeding is just another bill. “I do respect the 20m...

Re: Shop recommendations - Sale/Altrincham

Take some time to evaluate them, try asking naive questions by mail, visit the shops and pretend to be interested in buying, see if they try to persuade you to upgrade to something more expensive  Most (?) of us on these fora have been cycling for decades and might be more knowledgeable than ...

Re: Is this sprocket worn?

Looks fine to me. 1400 miles is nowt, sprockets should last much longer. 1500 miles is what I'd expect from a chain minimum. And sprockets tend to last 2 or more chains. (3 so far on my bikes without issue). Just make sure you renew the chain before it wears out too much. You can get a chain checker...

Re: Bike warranty

Hi I purchased a Boardman MX Sport from Halfords last October. I use it once a week and have ridden around 300 miles on the roads I noticed my back wheel has a buckle and I also believe there is a problem with the bottom bolt. If that’s the bolt that fits through the frame that the peddle arms atta...

Re: Road Rage

"I am astonished by the above 'I told you so' post". Are you referring to my post? If you are then you have chosen to take it the wrong way. I was simply pointing out that it's best to avoid this type of confrontation, if you can, because you never know what the driver will do. Most will ...

Re: Shimano deletes Ultegra and 105 triples?

And now - Campagnolo have just launched their 12 speed groupsets! 12 sprockets in the space of 10/11 and with double chainset so none of the compromises of Sram's 1x set up. For now it's just the top end Record and SR but bet on a flow down in fairly short order. Who needs a triple at the top end o...
