Re: What have the Reynolds ever done for us? A weigh-in

I couldn't say. Probably on the 531 and probably not on the 501! Yes if course geometry will paly a big part as well as wheels tyres etc. The 501 is longer on length whilst the 531 is more race spec. However the 531 has rack mounts whilst the 501 dosen't - v odd!! Should put sti on the Raleigh then ...

Re: What have the Reynolds ever done for us? A weigh-in

I have a Raleigh special products division 521c and a British eagle 501 tourer. Will be good to see the difference between them if I ride them back to back. I did notice that the steering seems stiffer with an aheadset quill adaptor on the 501 not sure if I should put sti and aheadset on 531?! Cheer...

Re: Base Training - anyone else still doing it?

I've been doing 1+1/2 hour rides twice a week with a 3 hour ride in the weekend. With four kids it's as much as I can fit in ATM. Most of its tempo riding with 2 x 10 - 20 min hills at different points in the ride. I'm hoping it's a good base for my lejog! I'm thinking I can ride into the long days ...

Re: New child, new bike, child seat or trailer, gear hubs... and more musings

Just a note I wouldn't put a child seat on a lightweight alloy or steel bike. I put on on my Scott CX bike and it dented the down tube which is actually quite thin where it is butted.

Better using a good heavy tourer as you need the low gearing to cope with the extra weight.

Re: Iain's 2019 LeJog

That's my thinking too book the train first and the accomodation.
I'm think of xc train Leeds to Penzance Friday night, rather than to London and the night Rivera to Penzance. Ok it will cost £40 in travelodge but simpler. Sorry for the thread hijack.

Re: Cheap carbon vs aluminium - which do you prefer

I prefer carbon to alu but there isn't much in it tbh My older carbon supersix is bullet proof but a bit heavy by today's standards. My Scott CX bike is light weight alu both feel fairly similar in ride if the same wheels are used. I think high level alu ie caad10+12 and equalvalent are prone to cra...

Re: Biscuits brake road bike under 2k

How about a supersix disc great bikes I have an older one and love it. 2k should get you ultegra depending on when you get it. If you want aero I think the canyon aeroad is a great bike for the money. Likewise ulterga for that money. Factor in some decent wheels if it comes with stock rs10 etc wheel...

Aldi hi Viz jacket. Great waterproof and robust. Ditto thermal cycling tights warm and robust. Thermal jacket I haven't got on with as it feels both baggy and quite stiff maybe I need to wash it more?! I have Boardman tights too good summer tights. I'm just outside Leeds and go into dales sometimes....

Re: LEJOG: would I enjoy it?

I've done it three times now, the first time in 14 days on a paid tour with about a dozen people. The second time in 5 days with 2 people, the third time was 8 days with 1 other person Some enjoyed it some didn't. The difference is the individual, not the ride, the weather or the daily mileage. It'...

Re: Pricing structure

I must say there are a lot of things said on this forum that are bang out of order. I'm on two shaving forums and there's nothing at all like this on either of them. The only two people whose posts I make a point of reading are Mick F and Brucey. They never get involved in this tit for tat sarcasm....
