Re: Changing from 1st to 12th

 Does di2 work best with sis or friction down tube levers?!!!! Surely you still select the gears? Otherwise you could have comfort sport and track settings lol! I'm sure it will come down to have an up and down button and you press as required and it choose when to change big ring? Or perhaps ...

Re: Is there a perfect bike for commuting?

I think that for commuting reliability is important and you don't want one that is in constant need of fettling or repairs. Therefore I would suggest a £300 road bike with carbon forks and claris which you then sell after a year for perhaps £200? Cost £100 ÷50= £2 a week. Nothing needs replacing in ...

Re: Seat tube front derailleur over tightened

Hi No I doubt it's too critical as it's on the down tube where most of the load is compression. I did the same to my Scott CX bike with a child carrier. Very annoyed to have done it but the bike has been fine for the past two years. That was an light alu frame so more highly stressed too. Cheers James

Re: Rear light to clip to saddle bag?

Hi My Arthur Daley solution was to cut a couple of inch off the Mrs brown handle (she's 5' nothing so wouldn't miss it!) And then wrap the seat post mount round that fixed to the horizontal webbing. Crude but effective. Turned the light 90° but with a saddle bag it doesn't matter. The bag needs to b...

Re: Changing from 1st to 12th

I do find with the newer compact chainset the drop from 50 - 36 or 34 is quite a large one. Much more than the traditional 52 - 42/39. Tend to have to drop a couple of cogs at the back to keep up cadence. Also tend to be on the bottom of block on inner chain ring or top of block on outer which isn't...

Re: New Shimano 'Metrea' Groupset

Looks awful to look at!
Like a cheap 1970/80's groupsets.

Must be said the latest campy record isn't much better!

2000s campy in polished alloy is the best!!!

I suppose it's how you define left out in the rain?
If you mean left out at a station or workplace 8hrs a day or worse still in the yard at home I can see a cover would very much be nessesary but for the cafe run stop I cannot see it being much of an issue?!

Re: Lightweight bike lock

Summer bike is an old Cannondale six carbon bike.
Winter is CX bike
+ Couple of steel retro rides!

I was more thinking of a lock for my up coming e2e where a lock at a cafe is the main requirement.
I could just use the kids coil lock!

Hi what alternatives are there for the A49?
There is a detour through harton and seifton,
another one via church stretton?
Finally another one via a alderton and Wem?

Any reason not to use these back roads?

If my leather saddle is treated with proofhide or dubbing etc
Who would you need a plastic bag to cover it?
You don't put plastic bags over your shoes?
Benefit of spa saddles is the water proof layer underneath them.

Re: Mick F route fast but safe.

Hi using this guide where would you put in another day? I'm thinking Scotland as it's beautiful and tough?!
Chepstow and Broughton are fixed by family. But after that it's Travelodge / yha.
Saddle still hard only 30miles today in the rain!
