The Decathlon 2 Man basic tent is on the heavy side, but survived torrential storms without letting in a drop.

Re: Croatian Coast - Island Hopping and Ferries
I have suggested to not take the coastal roads during peak tourist season because of all the campers and motorhomes on the road. The roads are quite narrow and can be a harrowing experience. Though Croatia is working hard at making their country a bike destination. The situation improves constantly. I have done a fair bit of research into island hopping and it can get frustrating due to the islands not being connected in a chain fashion and some ferries do not accept bikes. If you either plan your trip well, or take it with a 'whatever comes' attitude, it is a great ride.

Re: Is there any point in cycling?
Either you take to cycling or you don't. There are those who ride for the fitness aspect, those who like seeing the country side and those who commute for variable reasons.

Re: US travel insurance
The contract can be quite exclusive. Preexisting conditions may void all coverage, even if the claim has nothing to do with the condition.
Also be careful of non-U.S. companies. Many will pay on a reimbursement basis, meaning you may have to front thousands of dollars and wait for the cheque. Medical costs in the USA are 10 fold of those in the UK

Re: Cycle touring Italy - Any wisdom to share?
Small towns in Italy mean 3,000 inhabitants or less. If bigger, will have all services. The larger chain supermarkets are mostly open all day and many times, Sunday. Restaurants usually open from 12:30-15:00 and 19:00- 22:00. Pizzerias; later. Monday/Tuesday are their usually rest days
Walking into to any bar, restaurant, small store, say Buon Giorno/ Buona sera as a courtesy. Silence by tourists may be interpreted as snobbishness, so don't be shy about talking.
As long as a water fountain/tap does not have "non potabile" on it, the water is perfectly fine.
They know who the tourists are and understand the challenges, but you will run into a few impatient people.

Millions of people ride MTBs on the road, so I don't think there will be any sneering or snickering.

Wireless is far from low maintenance. Charging batteries, cleaning/lubing the chain and drivetrain.
I recommend a Koga commuter, with a belt drive.

Re: Muc-off cleaner as an ultrasonic bath surfactant?
I am too cheap to purchase an U S cleaner. I took an old orbital pad sander, upside down, attached a cake pan to it , then add household degreaser. It works very well. I do not believe there is a better method to get internal crud out of a chain.

I tried Muc Off chain lube and was not impressed at all. I clean my bikes with a bucket and rag, so see no need to ever use Muc Off again

Re: Munich - Venice
Walking Mestre to Venice is a long, boring and somewhat ugly experience (10km). I've never walked it, but have driven and it is not scenic.
Consider train. The cost is minimal and departures every 6-12 minutes, depending on the time of day.

Aluminum foil and baking soda and water. The foil does not scratch the alloy and the soda adds some abrasive

Re: Search for an electric mountain bikes
Depending on price and the terrain, you will have to decide if you want mid motor, hub motor, full suspension, hard tail, tyre width. There are many choices to make, but how much you want to spend is the first.

Not implying any toughness. I'm proud of routes I've done.
Is it so PC now that someone cannot even post photos of where they've been because someone might feel intimidated?
