Re: longest pannier rack available?

Have you tried an image search on "Dubbelzitter". These are the twin child seats on a rear rack that get used in Holland. The frame one of those goes on might be the basis of a bodge, subject to being able to attach whatever it is you want to carry. I think this is probably the way to go....

Re: longest pannier rack available?

Same site mentions these brackets that move things up and back: https://www.cyclingabout.com/all-about-rear-pannier-racks/tubus-lower-rack-mounting-kit-for-disc-brakes/ Yes I have seen that article on the site and actually have one of the racks listed (tortec) As for the tubus mounting kits, they g...

Re: longest pannier rack available?

Not sure what you are trying to achieve with the added length - a longer platform extending forwards, shifting carried weight backwards on bike, avoiding pannier conflict with heel etc. etc. Its mainly to avoid pannier conflict with heels. I have a short chainstay and have very large feet. Other th...

Re: longest pannier rack available?

Otherwise you could always buy a Kona Ute http://www.konaworld.com/ute.cfm which takes long racks to a whole new level! Thanks for your reply. I don't mind a bit of bodging, but not looking to purchase another bike. I am surprised to see no extra long Dutch racks, however searching the internet doe...

longest pannier rack available?

I am just doing some research and wondered what the longest pannier rack available is (to buy off the shelf)? The Jandd Expedition Rack is nearly 43cm long:

Any other really long racks that anyone knows of?

Re: what size bolt on skewers?

Just found this info in the reviews for the product on another site:

The standard Halo Hex Key skewers are 139mm and 174mm in length for just the shaft. The XL version are slightly longer at 149mm and 184mm.

So it looks like the standard will be fine for me. :D

Re: what size bolt on skewers?

If you can't measure the dropouts then it's a fair bet to get 6mm for a steel frame or 10mm for an aluminium one. If you get them and realise you got the wrong ones, send them back for an exchange under distance selling regs. Five quid says you want the standard 135s, but don't flame me if that's w...

Re: what size bolt on skewers?

As above. The XL are for bikes with thick dropouts (broadly speaking, aluminium or magnesium) and are thus a bit longer than the standard ones, which are for thinner dropouts (broadly speaking, steel). Both have the same diameter rod to fit inside a standard QR axle. but if you look at the specs th...

Re: What's a good external battery GPS unit.

I use Garmin 64st. Runs off AA batteries and is very rugged and waterproof. Does not have touchscreen, but for me that is a positive in terms of reliability. It has big physical buttons that you can even use with gloves on. I realise it's not marketed as a bicycle sat nav, but one thing I like about...

what size bolt on skewers?

I was thinking of picking up a set of these Halo bolt on skewers, but not sure about size? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/halo-hex-key-skewers-pair/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&sku=5360343382&kpid=5360343382&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=UK_PLA_Components&utm_medium=b...

Thanks for the link, but I can't help but think that the Hebie Chainglider or the SKS Chainboard would afford more protection.

Re: what are these called and where to get them?

BTW if you have but one chainring, it may be possible to fit a chainguard, if that is the sort of thing you might fund useful. Now is the time to think about it, anyway. cheers come to think of it, I was just considering that! Never had a bike with a chain guard before, but think it may be useful. ...

Re: what are these called and where to get them?

Such bolts are available in stainless steel, but you need a length that is correct for your parts, and they can vary a bit, e.g. so all 'double length' bolts are not the same. e.g. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/chainsets/id-stainless-steel-chainring-bolts-m8-x-075-double-85-mm-nuts-pack-of-5/ cheers ...

Re: what are these called and where to get them?

You might want to get the little tool that goes into the slots on the back to stop the whole thing spinning as you tighten it up with a Allen key from the other side. If these bolts are loose you will be driven demented by creaking sounds as you pedal. Do you mean this: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/...
