Thanks for replies.
Halfords do generic rear carriers for high and low positions. They claim that these are ok, But as has been mentioned, the actual vehicle manufacturers state that the rear door/boot is not suitable for this purpose.
While most people seem to get on with it, and use rear carriers for their bikes, and have no problems, there is always that doubt in your mind!
Halfords say its fine, that's their advice !
With a higher vehicle, SUV or 4x4, the straight lift to roof height for us older `CTC` members, isn`t as easy. Maybe a small set of steps might be the answer.
Did THULE make a roof rack a few years ago that had a system that you could attach to your bike at ground level and would then help you get it up on to the roof ?
Still looking for an answer!!!!!!!!

Rear bike carrier for Vauxhall Mokka
I am looking to buy a REAR CARRIER for a 2016 Vauxhall Mokka. This version does not have the integrated carrier, nor can it be fitted.
My confusion stems from info on a supplier of racks(Roofbox) webpage that says that the current Mokka`s rear hatch/door cannot support a rear carrier with straps and hooks and the only alternative is a towbar mounted rack or roof. Neither of which I want to do.
They state:
"Rear door mounting bike carriers....are only approved for certain vehicles"
"it is not possible to fit a rear door bike carrier to this vehicle(Vauxhall Mokka), this is due to the design and/or strength of the tailgate."
This seems pretty clear, but I`m wondering if any members have experience of this or indeed advice to offer. Is it only this vehicle, or is it common advice from suppliers for other cars too ?
