Ribble frames

Does anyone have one of their cheap Alu/Carbon audax frames? Am thinking of getting one as a replacement for a tatty 531 frame from the late 80s. Will just be used for commuting, some leisure riding.

They seem good value, so was wondering what people thought of them.

Going indexed on old bike

Am thinking of indexing my old 531 steed Needs a new rear mech anyway But in terms of levers, am reluctant to spend a fortune on combo brake/gear levers, are there index downtube levers available (frame has braze ons for levers) Am going to be running a 9 speed cassette, don't want to spend a fortun...

quill stem to ahead stem

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I've got an old bike with an old, quill tupe stem. Can you buy converters to new, 'fat' stems? Also (being thick) - how do modern stems work!?!?!?! I just don't get it...the old one was simple (forks have stem rammed down them and the 'plug' holds them in pla...

Paul/others: is it not the case the the hybrids will have a longer top tube to compensate for straight bars not having the 'depth' of drops? Ergo if you go the hybrid route, switching to drops at a later date may cause problems unless you turn into a giraffe (or fit a short stem)...

just to add to the above: racing cars tend to use slicks in the dry, for maximum adhesion; they only use treads in wet conditions to shift water.

 I thought I was the only one I've got Stronglight 99, Weinmann CP, Lyotard platforms, and old Shimano non-index 105 gears...and I've had the same debate, plus the inevitable 'new frame or tart up old one' debate E-bay is good for oldish bits. Dump the 27"s, though, like I'm going to do on...

Well, now

I've got DTs on my old 531, and frankly, they're a pain in traffic. I ride on the hoods most of the time, and to have the combined levers would be ace, frankly...but bar ends strike me as worse, I'd bang my damn knees all the time, clumsy ar5e that I am

Can you believe I've still got a copy of Bicycle magazine with a test of the CB Majestic. I remember it was a bike I lusted after as a young cyclist, really good VFM if you upgraded the wheels. Assume the frame braze ons were for brake and gear cables and bottle? Taking into account the cost of deca...
