Re: Extra-Wheel trailer advice

Thanks everyone for this. It was my first intro into the world of trailers. Learnt a valuable lesson, and yes, I know now I have over estimated its abilities and that perhaps of my pulling bike. Are two wheeled trailers more stable then? Will give it another go with lighter load, infact I think Ill ...

Re: Saddle advice please

Hello For saddle comfort I use these: http://www.rido-cyclesaddles.com/sensational-new-r2-c100064.html I cycled 105 miles last weekend with running leggings on. No padded bum at all. I can ride this saddle in almost any garment - making it ideal for touring and for commuting on. I cannot recommend i...

Extra-Wheel trailer advice

Hello Tina and I have purchased an ExtraWheel trailer for our cycle tour of Northern Ireland in July. I have been impressed with it until I tried it out. No problem getting it hitched to the road bike. I set off with 2 Orlieb bags on the trailer and 2 on my bike rack empty off to the supermarket, as...

I get all of a kerfufflle.

Booking accommodation in Northern Ireland. Landlady of the B&B asked me 'Is it your husband and yourself wanting the twin room then?' 'Oh no,' says I 'Its for my female cycling companion and I, we are married though.....' Long silent pause at other end.... Then I hear myself saying... 'But not t...

Paul has had to bail out....

:( Gutted for him. The planning, the expectations, the thrill of the chase. Plus hours and hours and hours of work an pedalling. Paul has received an injury (USA) and its not got any better and as such, he has had to bail from the Round the Globe cycle challenge. I have been following this with grea...

Re: Any advice for the lone tourer?

I tour frequently on my own. Bring a good lock. I bring a not so good one to be honest - Its a cable lock. But I do think it makes me a bit comfortable if I have to nip to a public loo, or into a shop. I never leave my bike unlocked even for a moment when Im not with it. I make sure essentials such ...

Re: Caught in a race - again.

Mick.... Did ya get ya medal! They where chucking them at everyone through the finish line. :) Rather nice ones they were too. Great post! Ive never been mistaken for a racer when I have 'joined' an organised event, but I am often mistaken for a tourer when in fact Im in a Sportive! :) Must be summa...

Re: Bike Hike, Toaster and Google maps

Thank you all for your help especially testing it in UK on Manx routes. Encouraged by Snibgo, I had to check it out.... and Bike toaster is back on the Isle of Man! The others are still down, Bike Toaster only works, if I click off Google Maps and switch to OSM. Then it works dandy, and not only tha...

Re: Bike Hike, Toaster and Google maps

Tried to toggle maps on Bike Hike. It works! But, using the string method. Ie it doesnt follow the map, I have to click and draw lines. Still. Got my distances confirmed and my altitude (hopefully its 2.5 AAA, GPS will confirm later today). I wonder what has gone on. I have used Bike hike and Google...

Re: Breakfast

Im with Meic on the granola stuff. When i had food poisoning on a cycle trip (warm ham in pannier = sickness for hours and hours and hours) The Jordons dried granola cereal saved my life. I was able - just, to nibble on bits of it, after 12 hours or so of not having a nice tour. I had to force it in...

Re: Bike Hike, Toaster and Google maps

Ah ha! I bet someone important has not paid a licence bill! Thanks Mick for taking the time and trouble to check for me. Tomorrow, I am cycling 100miles without knowing my elevation - theres a dangerous move for someone collecting AAA Audax points :) Managed with my trusty SATMAP to get distances, a...

Re: SPD Sandals

I bought the Exhuster ones from SJS. Wonderful service from SJS. But, the shoes.... Unless they have changed the design, they come with a moulded hard plastic base. It is indented with a hard plastic design. Anyway, the fit was good, the sandal part great quality. But I was unable to stand in these,...

Re: Bike Hike, Toaster and Google maps

LOL the string. thats what I have ended up doing. Sorry about being a pain, could someone in UK please scroll bike hike up, and see if you can get a line to work properly on the map of IOM for me? When I try a road in the UK, it works fine. But not on IOM. Google Maps works fine, but not on IOM Bike...
