Re: Wide walkable touring shoes ??
Blundstones are very good I find. Do wide fit too.

Isle of Wight Off-Road Tour
Hello all,
Trying to keep myself active and feeling positive this winter with a few weekend off-roady tours.
After doing the Peddars Way and Ridgeway recently, I'm plotting the next and had an idea of a round the isle of wight but would like spend as little time on roads if possible. Has anyone found any decent routes and tracks to help piece this together and to help my planning/day-dreaming?
Can't find much info to help.
Cheers,
Bill

Re: Anyone been camping yet?
I’ve done a couple of weekends this winter.
1 was along the Peddars way and a bit of the coast. Warm(ish) and windy but a nice trip as was very quiet people-wise.
Other was along the ridgeway. Colder and frosty with clear skies at night and frozen water bottles. Hard going on the chalky slip in the way but a nice time to be out.
Planning to go around the soon but waiting for a weekend without much rain.

Re: Brooks C13 cambium
I tried a C17 and 19 hoping them to be a maintenance free replacement to a b17 but found them both to be torture devices so had to go. I don’t ride with padding.

Re: 'Wild' Camping Netherlands & Germany
Thanks for the responses. Some good info there to know what to expect over there.
I use campsites if they're there, but sometimes you're cycling until late and up early so they don't always work out.
Cheers

Re: Recommendations for a waterproof touring jacket?
A friend of mine who spends a lot of time outside (veg farmer) really rates Rab jackets for their waterproofness and longevity. Seems they also do some repair service which seems like a good thing.
He uses this jacket on the bike too.

'Wild' Camping Netherlands & Germany
Hi all,
Planning a shortish tour for this summer through a bit of the Netherlands and Germany and was wondering what the attitude is toward 'wild camping' in these countries as I have heard it's not really tolerated much, but would be interested to hear more views and experiences of it. I don't really like the term wild camping, but I mean pitching up discretely and sensibly somewhere out of the way for a single night and moving on in the morning.
Have toured a fair amount around Britain, France and Spain and have always just pitched up a small tent out of the way at the end of a days riding which has never got me into a spot of bother with locals or authorities. Usually people cheerily say hello when you do see them.
Cheers

Re: Carradice Super C Wobble
Again, thanks for your responses.
Have made an improvement by fixing the back to the rack with zip ties instead of the leather straps and have added zip ties to the SQR frame to act as a buffer/shim to get rid of some of the movement in the frame against the block.
A bit of an improvement, but the whole bag rocks back and forward too! Oh well, just have to ride very carefully to reduce movement in the bag
Happy pedalling all

Re: Carradice Super C Wobble
The frame can and does rock around the in the mounting block. The bag can also flap around due to various aspects of the design and it's attachment to the frame.cycle tramp wrote: ↑7 Mar 2023, 7:54pmThanks for the photograph. Below is an image of the offending setup. The white of the side of the mounting block is electrical tape I wrapped aroudn the vertical(ish) sections of the steel uplift frame, but hasn't done enough to help. Plus I think this shouldn't be necesserary for bodges like this on a new product.
All the straps are as tight as they can be, but they just allow the bag to flap around too much. The lower strap that would clamp on to the seatpost doesn't do much to stop lateral movement and is high enoigh that allows the bag to fairly freely swing back and forth.
I trusted that this would be a well thought through product as they have stood the test of time shoehow, but I'm struggling to get this working satisfactorally.
Cheers

Just to check does the metal frame rock within the mounting block or does the bag flap around the metal frame or is it a bit of both?

I've had it in that position too, but moved it as one of the leather straps was sitting twisted half way round the bend in the steel. Seems to hang a bit more square here.
I think I might try jubilee clips around the dowel and the frame to really hold it in place as leather straps and a buckle will always have a bit of play in it.

I like your style. I need the extra stability to carry the essential beer.BerlinMatt wrote: ↑7 Mar 2023, 2:19pm 20211229_091238.jpg
2 years ago also a longflap an a rolls but no rack.
Enough spare clothes for sleeping out at minus 10 and a couple of litres of beer.

Saddle is a San Marco Rolls so no loops. Holds my rear up properly enough.
