afternoon all,

no posted in the subject for a while but thought I would give a quick update as im looking to sell the bike.

ive been going back and forth emailing Mercian pictures of the bike and they have stated that it is indeed a Mercian bike.

yeah that's weird that the pictures have disappeared. I think I have some close up pics of the brakes so il add them on here.

I emailed them the other day asking if i could send some pictures and the ref number and they said there would a £10 charge for them to check if they had any information on the bike.

Morning all.

So after reading the last few posts it become clear to me that when I checked the steering tube I actually checked the wrong part.... I was checking inside the frame and not the forks so I've just been out and checked again and there it was clear as day.. what an idiot I am!! Wether or not it makes a difference I don't know but at least i know the vague number I saw on the hangers was correct.

Also thanks to everyone who has commented I really appreciate it. Found out a lot more info than I thought I would.

Suppose I just need to decide now how much to sell it for and let someone take it and give it the attention it needs.

to be honest im not looking to refurbish the bike as I have no use for it, im going to look to sell it on and hopefully someone will buy it and appreciate it a lot more than I ever could.

the frame its self looks in really good condition however the paint work isn't great and who ever did end up with it(if anyone) would certainly benefit from getting it re-sprayed.

from what you have said and from looking at the catalogues and looking online there are so many variations that you could have with regards to these bikes.

as also previously said, it is worth what some one will pay so I suppose I need to decide what I need to price it at.

il tell you something it was a mission trying to find that frame number!!

so from my understanding now after finding the number and from information kindly shared on here its looks as though its a 1982 king of mercia frame with nervex lugs and a mixture of old part and lets say less old parts. checked the wheels last night and they are indeed weinmann(rims at least) 27inch, the brake levers are old GB's(assuming the calipers are the same) the rear derailer is suntour, crank arms are silstar. cant remember what the front derailer is and not sure about the handle bars.

Okay I'm pretty sure the number is 58382

No mate not been in touch with them.

Haha I've been looking everywhere. I've find a row of 5 numbers on the rear hanger and from what I can make out it's 5**82 it looks like the third number could be a 3 but I can't be certain

The majority of the have worn away but looks like 5*382 the star being a number I can't work out
