Anyone like their Garmin Edge 25?

Had mine for nearly 8 months & am somewhat underwhelmed. It seriously underestimates average speed for starters & IMO, the battery life is pretty poor. You cannot select miles & kilos - it's either all imperial or metric. The Garmin Connect app (IOS) needs a lot more development & of...

Re: Anyone Ditched their Car Completely for a Bike?

Gave up on cars over 25yrs ago. Occasionally wish I had one for transporting stuff but as has been mentioned - can hire one (not that I've done so - just a Transit for a good clear-out). My GF has a companion bus pass that I go free on (well beyond Berks in the past) & her train card gives us a ...

Re: Shimano FC-T551 chainset spares

My thanks to you both! Have ordered an FC-M610 ring. SJS specifically mentions the M551 as being compatible. My relief is great. Some folk were saying my best option was to fit a road double. I have a KMC 10sp chain, 11-28 cassette, 36t middle & soon, a 48t so can leave the front mech where it i...

Shimano FC-T551 chainset spares

Hi I'm trying to find a 48t 104mm BCD 10sp outer ring for my triple. Ordered a 36t & 48t but the 48 was 9sp so after some argument, managed to get a refund having confirmation it wouldn't work very well with a 10sp chain. I can get a complete chainset from Germany for 101 Euros but just want the...

Re: The timeless appeal of 7-speed gearing

Any bets on how long it will take to go from 12 to 14? Given that one team(aqua blue) are running 1x11 it wouldn't surprise me to see it sooner than some think, BUT with syncro shift di2 it'll shift automatically to next biggest/smallest gear even if that involves a chain ring shift so 2x 12 might ...

Re: Adapting battery packs from Cree T6 light to USB charger

I find this rechargeable battery resource useful. This link is specific to Li Ion cells:

Other pages cover other types. As a general rule, charging cells in parallel is not ideal, especially types that require constant current.

Re: Comfort for the elderly

I'm in my early 60s. I stopped getting defensive about my age long ago so tend to joke about dribbling, bits of me dropping off etc. I prefer to take the rise out of myself before someone else does!

Supposedly similar efficiency to a chain drive.

Re: V brake position

Some aero racing bikes have a front V brake mounted behind the fork presumably to be more aero. How effective they are at braking or actually allowing the bike to go faster, I've no idea.

Re: ...what the relative efficiencies of various drive trains?

Looks fun - but would you leave it parked anywhere public? It would be a bit of a temptation to a vandal with a penknife. No! However, I wouldn't leave any bike in a public place despite be well insured. The only exception being public bike lockers. The only problem with the ones I have use...

Re: Awful braking ability after expensive bicycle fitting

"As anyone cycling in London knows, you need really good brakes! " That'll be flat bars then! I ditched drops a good 20yrs ago & fitted straight bars. My chronic neck pain disappeared. It wasn't the stem length nor handlebar height that was the problem but possibly more to do with the...

Re: Brooks mud flap?

My rear Zefal clip-on mudguard doesn't extend backwards far enough so I get spray up my rear when it's really wet. I solved this by cutting out a 20x150mm strip from a plastic notebook cover. I drilled a hole in both, fitted an M4x8mm SS bolt, washer & lock nut. This flap folds back under the gu...

Re: reclaim the word 'cyclist'

Not as well as "Humblebrag" as in "Of course, all 4 of my bikes were recovered from my local canal which required re-spoking the wheels (by myself. naturally). It goes without saying that I could buy dozens of bikes without noticing any impact on either my bank balance nor frugal way...

Re: what do you think of these wheels?

Luddites? No. Brucey & I may disagree on disc brakes but not on the number of spokes. My Defy's wheels are the weakest part: 24 spokes on the rear & 20 on the front. Giant have upped the front''s to 21 on the newer model! Not only 20 spokes but the right side only is radially spoked which st...
