Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

Just focussing on negative aspects of everything just leaves one bitter and twisted... Focussing on positive things helps one and everyone else move onward and upwards. Guess what I'm thinking.... Al You are Dr Pangloss and I claim my tin of white paint for the painting of the coal heaps before The...

Walking the dog this afternoon. He couldn't care one way or another, but I'll be voting Labour. Sod Brexit, get rid of the Tories! IMG_0475.jpg Is this a Damascene moment!? If so, I will hold a small celebration and perhaps even sacrifice a villager in thanks! (A Brexit voter, obviously). :-) Cugel...

Re: Give up flying?

Missing the point in climate debate but this thread was about reducing pollution through changing travel habits so not missing that point. Besides I did say what she's doing is good but overall we do need a good look at how we go about things. Travel is certainly something to look at. Is it really ...

Chris Boardman now on BBC Question Time! Edit Chris made some very sensible comments and plugged no carbon transport very effectively. Couldn't stand the other Muppets so turned it off and went to bed. Al Are you suggesting that Mr Boardman (" ..other muppets" ...) was also a muppet"...

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/dec/25/car-pollution-noise-accidents-eu That nonsense again. Firstly, it counts noise as a cost. Nobody pays for noise. Constant noise has been shown to be a factor in both physical and mental health. So yes, we pay for it in our health and financially through...

Do not ride next to the sea, as a large Humboldt squid (lacking a Nautilus to grasp) might well take a fancy to that!

Re: Can we finally agree that building roads increases congestion?

However, your questions reveal that many (including you) cannot see beyond the status quo. Because you live in a world where the current default mode of transport is the private car you assume that its some sort of natural law or unchangeable aspect of reality. This is not so. Yes it is so. Shouldn...

I do have a right to criticise just as you are expressing the right to criticise me. It's called free speech. Make your mind up! I have a right to an opinion but not free speech? How does that work? It's as if I've entered a Students Union forum sometimes. Light the touchpaper and stand well back. ...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

As for the voting if there was a better alternative to the Tories folk including me would be voting for it, but again I find myself aligned with the majority intending to vote for what the majority see as the least damaging option. I note that the top 1% are paying 30% of all income tax collected w...

All those 'experts' with their reasonable logical opinions and so called proven facts are being ignored by a substantial majority after being seen to be biased and consistently wrong peddling snake oil time and again. I have just pressed the button for a new Spa Titanium Touring F&F <SNIP> . . . It's a relief that you haven't "pulled the trigger on" rather than "just pressed a button" in your acquisition. A relief because Yank violence talk gets right up my anti-Yank prejudiced nozzle. :-...

Re: Can we finally agree that building roads increases congestion?

The way to do it is not all at once, but gradually. Change the rules a little, ban parking on one side of the street, etc. Develop an area, then make some changes in surrounding areas to support it. If done right, people will grumble, but not scream about it. And they will find that their streets a...

Re: Can we finally agree that building roads increases congestion?

Exactly. Even if you never park on the road outside your own home I bet you do when you visit other people. You have no chance of getting the public to vote for a ban on parking on roads. Car owners have become so used to freeloading over many years that changes can only take place gradually, charg...
