I'm shortly starting a new (non-cycle related) job, its too far to ride plus too much kit to carry, and public transport doesnt start early enough. Added to that i have als...

Re: Selling out to the dark side....

thank you all for the good wishes. The driving is the downside. there is a longer term plan afoot, involving better weather and motorbikes. pity you've become disillusioned with Bikeability. Yes, it's the fact that we do L2 at primary then pick up the same kids in secondary for L3 but find they have...

Re: Folding pedals

We have a load of those shown in bruceys first pic....maybe five bikes worth. They are great for learn to ride as they allow people to scoot without mashing their shins. Weve had them for about four years, theyve not done a high mileage but have taken a lot of abuse from learners. So far all are sti...

Re: Are bikes as good as they were?

I liked thicker chains and sprockets because they lasted longer. I liked BBs that you could take apart, regrease or chain the balls on. I liked quill stems that gave a lot more variance of bar height. Ditto headsets with proper bearings. On the other hand i like brakes that work in the wet. I like t...

Re: NCN5 Cannon Hill Park - Bike Trains

Maybe worth contacting the local community cycle clubs like Balsall Heath or Saheli, etc to see if theyd be able to help, e.g. publicise, maybe put on a ride to launch it, etc. Also, get it publicised via BCR and TAWS. Im sure youve already mentioned it on PBC and PushBikes sites. Sounds like a grea...

Re: BC membership up

[post removed in order to prevent people randomly making up stuff about my rides] 100% H&H so I think it looks like a BC astroturfing ride like Sky Ride or Breeze. Is the wrong answer. As clearly pointed out the helmets and hiviz were totally optional - so I am really at a loss as to why are yo...

Re: BC membership up

Please do not turn this into another helmet argument. UC's point was not that people should not wear helmets but that he was annoyed because he thinks BC are trying to remove the individual's choice as to whether or not they wear one. Fortunately he is incorrect in his talk of BC's blanket bad on he...

Re: Guy Fawkes night

took ages to get my quivering wreck of a cat in last night :-( on the other hand, I shall be out hunting rocket wood tomorrow, to be used on the model railway. We don't seem to have Guy Fawkesnight here. Just one long fireworks festival starting with Diwali and ending shortly after new year's eve. A...
